I've been running a 170 auto T-stat for 15 years. Still have the 145 in a box somewhere.

Hello Hagman,
Can you please post a photo of your t-stat housing ?

Sounds like you are on the right track. I really dig that you are in France and playing with a Supra, with a big block no less, very cool. I have friends in Denmark that have a bunch of American V8 race cars that I go help them with, they are an oddity for sure. With your fuel prices I know you have to be dedicated!!
The thermostat does not control water to the exhaust, that is flowing all the time to keep the manifolds cool. So chose your t-stat to control minimum engine operating temperature. I would use 160+ for sure. No shortage of cool water to keep the engine from overheating and a warmer engine is a happier one, to a limit obviously.
Cheers!

Thank you for your comment Kevin, it conforts me on the t-stat and exhaust.
And yes, when we talk about our engine size, people look at us with big eyes and think we are crazy to drive this boat, because of the gasoline price here ...
when you love you don't count the cost ;)
Cheers

Hi guys.
I'm back home after 1 week in south of France and 1 week in Toscane Italy.
Next week will be the week of fixing the heat problem and the go back to the water.
I will also start builing the tower led spots.
Finally, Skidim sent me an email. They have now a new item #50313 to replace our old housing to fit a car t-stat.
I have first to do more test to be sure my t-stat is guilty before placing an order ...
Here is the link to the housing : http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=BBB252980

Thanks for the info, that's good to know. It's cheaper than the solution that was available a couple of years ago.

Double check measurements and connections if you're considering replacing the tstat housing. I replaced mine with the older style that skidim previously offered that uses the automotive tstats. Only after installing it did I notice that the locations for the manifold and water pump hoses were swapped front/rear from the original locations. Not a real big deal since I was redoing all the hoses anyway, but it really cut down on the clearance between the alternator belt and pump hose on the port side & required some creative bracketing to keep things from rubbing.
Hopefully you just need a new tstat, but thought I'd mention it just in case...

Thanks Mike for advises.
I tested yesterday the t-stat in the kitchen. It opens at the good temperature. Means I need to check now the circulation pump and rust presence in the block coolant system. Unfortunatly here in France weather has never been so awful for this month. I can't start the engine with rain outside, so, I have to wait !

Hi guys,
Finally, my engine is no more overeating. The bath of cola, white vinegar and lemon juice saved the t-stat. Now it sits at 150°.
Now I have to wait for sun and it goes back to water.
I also have all stuff to build my led tower spots. It will be cheap and chic. About 8$ each including Led ...
Keep watching :)

Hi everyone !
It's not finished, but I need your Pros and Cons. Here is my tower spot leds. There will be 2 of this thing on the tower.
It's pretty easy, cheap and chic to build :
Some plumbing stuff : ø50mm tube (can be free if you have spare in your garage), a connector to join 2 tubes, 1 rapid ø50mm clamp, and a openable ø63mm clamp. Then, I bought 12V DC 24 SMD Leds, Cool white color.
Here is my 10$ spot :

http://sdch2o.free.fr/perso/bateau/supra/towerLed05.JPG
http://sdch2o.free.fr/perso/bateau/supra/towerLed06.JPG
I will then paint everything in black. The rapid clamp will be glued to the 50mm tube.
I would have put this under the tower, between the tower speaker box and the tower, but there is not enough space. So, it will be up of it.
Leds seems sealed (opposit to the blue ones used in resin for the underwater spots), it is easy to change it, so I will test if it survives a rainy day ...
Pros, cons, feeling ?
Cheers

As with your other stuff, I think it looks great. Have you run the wiring yet? I didn't see it anywhere.

Thanks Titan for your comment.
No, it's not yet wired. I will do it the same way than the speaker box, with sealed connectors.

I wanted to chime back in on the thermostat housing issue -- since the boat is back from Winter, I took a photo showing the housing. I'm fine running a regular automotive t-stat.

Hah -- As soon as I took the photo I knew someone would mention that it's not quite right. That's the master ground. There's plenty of meat in the ring terminal but I just trimmed the insulation a little too much. It's been on the to-do list for years. It should be replaced with a solder on terminal and some heat shrink... but.... you know.....

The tower LEDs are not good right now because I bought 140 degrees LEDs, and it lights only the boat interior.
I need to change it for 30 degrees maximum LEDs. I find it yet, just need to order.
Keep watching ;)

Hello guys,
Here is the little upgrade of the weekend. There is not enough cup holders in this boat for alcoolic people like us !!!
I put 2 on each side of the glove box :
http://sdch2o.free.fr/perso/bateau/supra/cup01.JPG
http://sdch2o.free.fr/perso/bateau/supra/cup02.JPG
Ordered from here :
LINK (http://www.ebay.com/itm/261191058115?item=261191058115&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OU:FR:3160&vxp=mtr)
I will also put 2 Under the control shift, on the floor, for the driver.
And 4 more in the rear of the boat.
I have 3 options :
- replacing the engine's house wood hatch by a modelling hatch with 3 cups in it
- building a 2 cup holder sheet with carpet on it and place it at the feet of the middle place
- Drilling the engine's house and put 4 cups on it like on SUNSPORT models
Any opinion ?

That's a good point man ! hot beer is definitely not good for the human organism ;)
I will then study a hatch or a floor holder.
Thanks again ;)

not sure exactly where you keep your boat/ride so it's just marked as Paris. your spot can be pinpointed better if you want so people can zoom in to see your home water.

That's a good map Salty. So nobody rides in California !!!???
I replace my mark exaclty where the boat is. Thanks to had me ;)
Thanks ngavdba, we love our boat, it's the biggest (actually longets) of the place where we ride, but there are modern nicer V-drive wakeboard boats, like 2x Malibu wakesetter, 1x MC X-star, 1x MC X-14 (that one makes no Wake) and 1 correct craft V-drive.
We have the funiest boat because of it's age, room, seats arangement, hifi power (tons more sound than every of the other boats), places (10 people in the Saltare), and because of course it's ours ;)
Still need an american look trailer with european accessories on it and we will be cool :)

Hi guys,
I just finished rebuilding vinyl on the rear of my boat.
In fact, 4 years of everyday wakeboarding got it older sooner. I had scratches on rear seats.
So I remove covers, found a friend that makes seats for boats and TV shows sofa etc.
He asked me $200 for the largest sun bath + corner seats + center seat.
The white color is the same but with 26 years less, so it appears a little bit different, whiter, but I'm sure in 1 year with sun, alcool, parties etc. we will not see the difference anymore :)
I did the uncovering and recovering by myself :

Did you see much gain out of the Edelbrock performer intake?
Sdc77
04-13-2015, 03:08 PM
Thanks Okie Boarder ;)
I don't have an Edelrbock performer intake. Mine is factory. I did test a 600 CFM Edelbrock carburetor, but sold it as I didn't get good results. It was remanufactured and certainly badly remanufactured ! Now I'm on the factory setup with the Holley 800 CFM on the factory intake.
I will test a new timing setup as soon as I get a new starter ordered last last week.
Cheers

Wow, there's a lot of things to dodge in that waterway - boats, swimmers, poles, etc. Does it ever open up?
Sdc77
06-05-2015, 08:44 AM
Thanks for comment man ;)
Yesterday was quiet calm, only 2 more boats on water. Imagine on weekends it can be 10 to 15 boats on the same waterway ! We only ride on week, the drone is high flying, the waterway is large enough don't worry. There are not many places to do wakeboarding in France. It's a small country, our rivers are thin, and lakes look like swiming pools for you guys :D (I was at lake Tahoe last summer, and Wow, it looks like a sea !)
I'm pretty happy with that place, it's 10min from my job place, 15min from my house, and the dock is 100m from the speed zone.
Hope any of you visting Paris one day to come and share a beer on my Saltare ;)
