Would realy like some first hand reports. On what people like and why.

How long did it take you learn to ride you airchair. A buddy of mine picked one up and has no clue how to ride it.

RE: Hydrofoil=A day to get up on it. A couple days to "Fly" it. Landed the first invert within a month or two.

Tell him to get to a "fly-In" or find someone that rides it will take a LOT of bad crashes and frustration out of it. Here is a forum that will help him also. http://www.foilforum.com/forums/content.php

As for Boards when I teach people on them I put them on a Liquid Force Fish. It's wider with built in fins and a lot easier to learn on. IMO

We tested few boards and here is my report :
Mine : JOBE LOGO series, 136cm (I'm 1.80m and 80kg). Very light, good for beginers and some tricks, not the most stable board but surely the lightest. Cheap.
My brother's : GATOR (2008) 132cm (He's 1.60m and 60kg). Very stable, light, good for medium and pro riders. Expensive.
A friend : JSTAR Republik series. Amazingly nice board. But unfortunatly very instable. Too short channels and short fins. Cheap
A friend : O'Brien Clutch 138 : Definatly too heavy, too slow. Nice board and cheap, but not a good coice
A friend : LIQUID FORCE TRIP 138 : the best alternative, very stable, versatil, good for begginers and pro, girls, kids, adults. The biggers friends was 120kg. We learned on it, and did our first backrolls. It never broke. Cheap board, a good investment.

Hope it helps.

I had a Byerly Assualt I picked up and rode for a year. It stuck to the water good, had lots of pop, and was easy to ride. Might be a good candidate for you.

I sold the Byerly last year and bought a LF Watson Hybrid. Personally, I like this board much more as its looser on the water and is just more fun to ride. I foresee my next board as being a flex or hybrid, I'm likely done with the traditional boards as I don't see any benefit they offer over a more flexible board. I had a Slingshot Hooke for one set also, it was fast and fun to ride but it broke first set out. Supposedly they have fixed the track system .. who knows.

I would def look for an intermediate and up board as you don't want a board you grow out of quickly. Also, if you aren't worried about having the newest graphics, check out boards a year or two old from online retailers. Can save some coin, especially this time of year. Hell my local dealer is selling boards leftover right now for $150 bucks.

Check out evogear's outlet section and they typically have a coupon code that goes along with the outlet price. It changes every week or so.

You will want at least a 140 and your son could probably ride up to high 130's? I'm not certain on your son.

Thank you

I dont care about having the latest graffics. Ben looking at so year old blems.

Forgive my ignorance but what is a hybrid I have seen the on the web and have not been able to find a good answer.
I wish we had a good local board shop. I am at the point will probably just find some used or year boards that you folks recomend.

I picked up a liquid force helix 136 off of ebay for $40 I belive it is a three stage rocker any one ride on of these.

Now the next thing Is bindings this making my head spin more than the boards.
Would like somthing easy to get into and comfy.

Thanks big time for the help you all a probably saving me alot of time and money.

Bindings must be light, flexible and should maintain your feet.
In my opinion, RONIX makes the best overall bindings on the market. Even the cheapest model (DIVIDE) can beat most of the bindings.
Liquid force are too heavy and manufactured from a material that is not sustainable
GATOR are good but heavy
O'Brien are light but doesn't maintain feet enough on cheap models

Open or closed toe boots depends of what you prefer
Hope it helps

Like KG said, check out evogear.com and particularly this page in their outlet section. Take those prices for the board binding combination then enter the code "on dasher" and you'll get between 20-40% extra off.

Aside from that, I know a lot of beginners and even intermediate riders like the Liquid Force Trip, they've had that board in their line since the beginning of time.

Thanks I have spent hours on that site.

Been looking at the trip.
It is said to be a good all around board they make it in a 146cm witch should be easy for first timers to get up on.

146cm sounds too long if small begginers whants to try it. The 138cm TRIP is a reference IMO ;)
Good luck

146 is a huge board! It would only be for you (you could really ride smaller) and people larger than you.

Ronix is definitely a highly recommended binding. I don't have any personal experience with them. I would recommend going ahead and buying a closed toe binding so in 2 months you arent wishing you had. Once again, don't be afraid to buy a year or two old off of some online retailers.

The year or two old doesnt bother me at all. I kinda on the cheepe side so the lower price is a big plus.

Thanks for the insight on the huge board.

For what it's worth, I just started getting into wakeboarding this year. Picked up the LF Trip 138 with Index bindings for $300 before the season. By the end of the season, I already wanted to upgrade and went with a 2011 Slingshot Reflex with 2011 Ronix One Bindings. I got a great deal when Slingshot was clearing out their boards and picked up the boots from eBay for a great price. The Trip is now my community board since it has the open-toe bindings. Definitely can't go wrong with the Trip. I am 6' about 150 lbs. Good luck!

My favorite beginner board:

http://hyperlite.com/PRODUCT/WAKEBOARD-PACKAGES/Men-s/State-w/Remix

This board is stable, forgiving, and still provides room to grow. I have upgraded as I got better (or thought I did) but I will never get rid of that board. Great for when beginners come out with us too. For reference, I am a 6'3" 230 pound rugby player and I bought the 145. Totally happy with it. My buddies girlfriend even used it at 5'3" 110 pounds. She just cruises behind the boat but still.

I ride a Byerly Conspiracy and a Ronix One, both of them I use Ronix Kai bindings. I love the Conspiracy but the One is my favorite.

I have ended up with a hyperlite motive 144 and ronix relic boots.
and a liquidforce helix 136 for my oldest son.

My daughters liquidforce angle should be here any day.
Still need to find her a decent set of bindings.

Thanks for all the input.

With the exception of the viagra guy you have all been a big help
