HERE IS A FEW PHOTOS I TOOK WHILE REBUILDING MY VELVET DRIVE MARINE TRANSMISSION ..

ROOT OF CAUSE FOR REBUILD WAS THAT I RAN IN REVERSE INTO SAND BANK DURING LAKE TRIALS AFTER I BROUGHT THE SUNSPORT HOME , FORWARD WAS
STILL IN GOOD WORKING ORDER SO I JUST WENT ABOUT MY WAY ... THIS IS WHAT I FOUND AND HOW I WENT ABOUT TO REBUILD MY TRANSMISSION , :NOTE:
I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL AND THIS WAS MY FIRST TRANS REBUILD OF ANYKIND ! EXCEPT REGULAR TRANFER CASE AND REAR ENDS ...

FIRST DRAIN THE 2 QTS AND REMOVE THE STRINGER MOUNTS ....http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/a035f519.jpghttp://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/b7ca9b63.jpghttp://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/b31237c1.jpghttp://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/6f9d558a.jpg

ONCE YOU REMOVE THE PLATES YOU CAN PULL THE FORWARD SPLINE GEAR AND CLUTCH PACK... THERE WILL BE 2 SNAP RINGS THAT NEED TO BE REMOVED TO PRESS SHAFT OUT AND SEPARATE THE CLUTCH PUMP ASSEMBLY http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/5eb237aa.jpghttp://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/d9177809.jpg

SHAFT IS PRESSED THROUGH THE REAR AND THE BEARING WILL PULL OUT WITH YOUR FINGER http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/938fb6b5.jpghttp://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/165aecfe.jpg

Wow!!! That's a great walk through. Good job on stopping to take pics step by step. Did you have rebuild instructions for the transmission? Hats off to you if you did all that with no guide. I consider my self fairly mechanically inclined but to takle something like that I would have to have some intructions. If I didn't, I would have left over parts when I put it back together, haha.

Nice thread, it's always really helpful to have stuff like this to refer to when you have to tackle rebuilds.

These velvets are very simple drivelines , just pay attention to your snap rings and the friction plate gaps , very important to set
The gap per manual or it will slip and you will have to pull apart and rebuild again .. I hope this helps out ... and good luck. !!

Nice post brother! This will be so helpful to anyone who has to do a rebuild. I wish this was up a couple of months ago when I did mine. The reverse plate was sheered in half also. Thanx again for the good pics and post!

Lively, can't thank you enough for the helpful post, pics, AND the personal help you gave on the phone a week or so ago. After following your instructions, I removed my noisy tranny and replaced the dampener plate. Made all the difference in the world, and not too soon! My family had a week of trouble-free fun on the lake last week. When (and if) my tranny needs an overhaul I will likely give you a call. Thanks for everything!

Dear lively, I am getting ready to rebuild my velvet drive - and found your pictures on the supraboats website - however starting on post #4, the pictures are "Not Found". Do you know why not? From what I saw (the initial pictures & comments) -it appears like it couldbe very helpful! Thanks for any help!
