I laid 70% of the passenger side wed night and my 2-QT measuring cup was getting hard 75% thru it. So I backed off about 50% of the amount of hardener I was using to have more time laying glass. Well a cold front came through dallas wed morning and dropped the temp to 45 degrees (no, i wasnt watching the weather) and now lastnight 24 hrs later my resin is still soft and Its only getting to 55 and rainy for the next 3-days. Will this resin eventually dry? What should I do? IM WORRIED!! Jet

why are my fingers sticky??

I would suggest putting some sorta heater in your garage to warm the place up a bit.

Get some heat on the resin/glasswork. A radiant disk type heater would work the best. It will heat the surface not the air...

So, you're saying that instead of using the prescribed about of hardener ratio (like 2:1), you dropped it by 50% (to something like 2:.5)? I've never changed ratios, but won't the wrong ratio cause it not to harden properly no matter what the temp?

poly or epoxy?

there is a point where it won't kick but no reason to give up yet with weather as crappy as this. heat!

I'd try heat & more time first. I've had a soft/gummy surface before on past projects (old resin, poor ratios, etc.) & had decent results by wiping down with a mixture of mostly acetone with some (~10%) hardener. But if the matrix itself won't kick - you're screwed - pull the mess & start over.

Ok I put a heater on it and its helped a little. But still about 20% of it hasnt hardened yet. Its still 45 and cold and moist outside and now Im going to loose another weekend damn it! Could I add another hotter layer (with more hardner) on top of it or just let it dry?

In colder temps and increased humidity levels it will take time. Best thing to do is wait and see what happens. You will find when the temp increases the product will flash hard within a few hours.

give it heat and time...do not add another properly mixed layer to it... you'll still have a gooey layer should it never kick off...and hidin it won't help...
always use the ratio per the instructions - and don't mix more than you can apply during the pot life of the mix... and yeah, I've always followed instructions and never made a mistake...ever...just ask me! LOL Hope the heat works...............

Just cant figure out why only 90% of it dried. I still have a few spots that are wet so I will scrap them up and re-do those spots. Thanks guys

High jet I have been wondering how your fiberglass project is going. Years ago I worked in an auto body shop that specialize in repairing corvettes. One of the projects we were working on had a similar problem with fiberglass not curing. My job was to do all SHIT work. The technicians had me scrub all of the soft fiberglass away with acetone and then I had to grind the surface clean and reapply more fiberglass resin and cloth. What I found was only the surface maybe 16th of an inch hadn’t cured. The warm days are coming you Gotta get this boat back on the water.
Good luck Hagman

Yeah, I only have a few little spots that wont dry so fri I will scrap up and finish that side out in smaller hotter sections. Thanks

Once you clean it up, make sure you mix the recommended ratio and you won't have this problem again.
