Looking for any insight of the installing the drive shaft. I found this link and helps alot : http://www.moomba.com/msgboard/showthread.php?15524-Prop-Shaft-Coupler-Removal
But my question is how does it seal from the outside to the inside? or What do i need to purchase?
Thanks,

You might as well get yourself a dripless shaft seal. They come in 1" DDrive and 11/4" VDrive. skidim.com sells them or you can get them direct from OJ props

What do they cost?

They are $179.

This would probably be the way to go if you don't have the bronze nut and fitting I mentioned to you via PM. What I'm talking about is big honking bronze nut that the driveshaft actually passes through.

If you do have these parts, its much cheaper, simpler, and just as effective to just replace the shaft log hose with new and go to gore-tex packing in the nut. If you have the bronze parts, your cost is about $30.

I'm sorry, I do not have a picture of what the shaft log looks like and my boat is still in storage.

Attached are pictures of drive shaft boot. There is no nut. What do you reccomend to seal or how would you do this procedure?
Thanks,

looks like the original pss dripless system. they work great although the rubber doesn't last forever.

the way it works is there's a stainless steel collar attached to the driveshaft. it compresses the rubber boot. the face of the collar and face of the boot create a water-tight seal...provided the faces are clean/smooth and also provided the collar is compressing the boot sufficiently. install the collar on the shaft before you secure it in the coupler. once you've got everything back together, last step is to compress the boot with the collar and tighten the set screws.

you can buy new dripless seals as mentioned above or you can call PSS and get replacement parts.

It looks like I cant find the collar that is suppose to be attached to the driveshaft. Can i order this or get at a local store?
Thanks,

It looks to me like the original LASDROP shaft seal, like the one that came on my boat. The Lasdrop seal that Supra used in the mid 80's looks a lot like a PSS seal without the cooling water line. I tried to repair mine by ordering a new bellows and shaft collar - it was VERY expensive and never did perform to my satisfaction. In the end I ordered a new 1" PSS seal from skidim.com (with the cooling line) and life is good. I think I have pics somewhere if you want to see them.

I don't want to sidetrack this thread but this may be beneficial to finka and maybe others . . . After looking at the pictures it came to me what happened.

I repaired the Lasdrop as shown in the previous pics. Then I had a little mishap with a prop and my shaft vibrated so badly at around 1500 rpm that it actually wore down the mechanical seal where the shaft collar meets the seal ring. See pic below.

It also wore the collar pretty bad.

One more note . . . . good time to replace the cutlass bearings (there are two) in the strut.
