I recently bought an "85 ts6m...I am not sure how stiff the stering should be, but it seems very tight whereas I need to hand to turn the boat?

Can someone enlighten me on how the stering on this boat? I am thinking that this is not right, so if so, what needs to be replaced/checked?

Thanks for the help.

you should be able to spin the wheel with one finger. it sounds like your steering cable is worn. you can make sure by disconnecting the cable from the rudder, in the bilge near the water intake. if the wheel is still hard to turn, the cable is shot. there's a slim chance that you have grease zerks on your cable, it's rare but they do exist. take a look and shoot some grease in them if you do. if not, i'd just replace it. they don't last forever, if it's the original cable it needs to be replaced.

i'd suggest calling www.skidim.com, they'll know what you need to get.

it's a pretty easy job, helps to be small or a contortionist though.
