View Full Version : Shaft Replacement 99 Legacy

I tore up the shaft, strut, rudder, prop, front skeg and i little gelcost on my 99 Supra Legacy last weekend. I took it to the local shop and was told that the engine has to be removed to replace the shaft (supposedly an 8 hours job). My insurance company cut the hours on the estimate by about eight hours. I called another dealer and was told that the engine doesn't have to be removed. Can anybody shed a little light on this for me? I thought about doing some of the work myself as I am a decent back yard mechanic but have no way to pull the engine so that would eliminate that option pretty quick.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Phil

Phil,

All of the items on your list can be replaced with the engine and transmission in place.

Thanks,

I got that same answer from several other shops that I talked to. I will be going to pick the boat up from the dealer to have it repaired elsewhere.
