Water kinda sucked, little choppy due to some tubers on the other side of the bay... Only skied twice for a total of 20 minutes the entire time we were down there.

Here's my contribution for now. Finished up the Bimini and the new mirror last night. Also I installed a new Pertronix Ignitor II ignition, Flamethrower coil, and distributor cap. Other than a good cleanup, I think I'm ready for summer.

Got the boat out for the first run today....Ran beautifully :D!!!!!!!!!! It was raining on and off but I still managed to get a quick set in. Kids loved it. Don't have any of just the boat on the water yet... but I'll tell you I had to pinch myself when watching it come back to pick me up. (had to remind myself it was mine) lol Looks awesome on the water. Stock wake is really good too! think I nailed the wake plate setting first time off. He's a couple of shots from today, lake was empty and pure butter!

Daff - She still needs a floor and stringers. But I believe she will make it through the season. She has came a long way. I have worked about 40 the last 3 days just trying to get ready for today. My wife is a little picky and wanted everything just right. I would have taken it out without any seats if I had to. It looks pretty good. Saddens me to think it all has to come back out this winter when the stringers get done.

Now I am ready to start dressing up the engine. It seems solid, just want it pretty.

Heres a shot of the interior last night. We are taking friends out today. And it will be my wifes first time out in it. Hopefully this is the beginning of a new chapter in our lifes.

Ummm ya! lol. I love how it turns... at 22 mph on a nice gentle turn it doesn't even lean. I see what you meant that if you'd turn to hard it would throw you. Going to put the dock in today, and maybe take her for another tour. :) I feel like I went from driving a K-car to a Cadillac. :D

I see what you meant that if you'd turn to hard it would throw youRamp that bad boy up to 35mph and crank the wheel, J/King I don't want you to mess your boat up. I don't do jet ski turns that often but they are a crowd pleaser. Best thing about DD's is the handling. DISCLAIMER!! It's real hard on the rudder.

We are just south of Columbus. Spent the day at Deer Creek. Doesn't want to run at idle or low speed. It likes to go fast though. It was leaking oil into the bilge. So we stopped once we noticed. I am not sure where it is coming from. Spent a couple hours anchored, chilling. Was nice. I will look tomorrow and see if I can figure out where the oil is coming from. So we didn't get to try out the new wakeboard. Tubed for a little while. Was a good day.

My youngest turned 4 last weekend so we had to celebrate on the boat with some friends. On a side note, I had to give some advice to two boaters last weekend. Both were on their first time out for the season, both had just purchased their boats (used), and both overheated. Always, always, always change out your impeller when taking over ownership! One of the guys was a new Supra owner and explained what he needed to do. Told him about our forum too...hope to see him on. His boat overheated so bad it burned a hole in the wet exhaust hose! He said it only got up 200*. Hope he is lucky!! Anyway, here are some pics!

Really enjoying all the June pics. Hope to have pics of the boat and boarding by next week. For now I will share a pic of the freshly painted house & what I came up with for a dock system. Just finished the install last night, 100% cedar, galv. and aluminum hardware. Any recommendations on a cedar sealer, I plan on letting the deck panels sit for about a week to finish drying.1021310214/

So I finally got my boat in the water this season (but I don't have any photos.) I can't remember ever having it be this late before I dipped it.... but..... there was a good reason. My friend was playing in the Stanley Cup and we got all access passes to the Staples Center to watch!! Hung out and rubbed elbows with the celebrities in the private/secret bar next to the locker room and even got to valet park in the players lot below (which was interesting in our rented toyota carolla.)

So finally, I got the system from the old boat, into the Comp. It's a ported box, for a 12" Alpine, that takes up the corner behind the beat

10226

I then coated the whole thing in paint, then spar urethane so it doesn't rot out.

10225

Then carpeted it. Not the cleanest carpeting job I've done because the carpet is rubber backed.

10224

Then, smoked a 6lb pork shoulder for 14 hrs, and took the boat out. Still waiting for pictures from my buddies...

Got out on the waterfor a bit tonight... shaft seal is leaking quite a bit... I never check on the first run out but was going to leave the boat in tonight cause I'll be going out tomorrow... go thing I checked. I think daff replaced the packing last year... so should I just try to tighten it first? or will I need to replace it?

The ol SS looks great on the calm of the north!!

As for the seal, I only finger tightened the cap nut so it could of backed itself off a tad. I was under the assumption that too tight was not good so I started off on the loose side. Double check the bilge pump and see if there is a flapper float on it. I think it only has the manual type, after playing with the Launch bilge....

I love the perma smiles on the crew and captain too!

Yes. It takes a while to learn to set the vents and build the fire, but once you have it figured out, you can build the fire, light it off, have it to smoking temp in about 10 minutes, and walk away from it for 14 hours while it's doing its thing.

I've also done pizza on a pizza stone, and it came out great. Lowest temp I've had it at was for salmon at 195 degrees, and hottest temp was probably around 850 for searing a steak.

Man that butter behind you makes me want to ride!

No clue what the fish is.

We had a hell of a scare today on the way home from the river. I was about 40 yds from a light with an idiot in front of me, it turned yellow (doing 60 or so) and he decides to slam on his brakes after looking like he was going to try and make it. I locked 'em all up and was seriously worried I wasn't going to be able to stop and was going to rear-end him. Thankfully the tundra and boatmate brakes did what they should and we missed him by about 3 ft. Laid on the horn. He was in the intersection already and just then decided to go and run the light. Very scary. Had our 9 month old with us. And the van behind us almost hit the swim step, I saw him in my mirrors veer off the road a bit (no shoulder at this light.

Well, I finally got some pictures. Some of you will notice one or two of the new mods, I will have posts on those later. Keen eyes will see the other.

Took the boat down to Guntersville, AL for a wakeboarding tourny, and had a blast. The hotel was on the water, and a boat ramp in the parking lot. They had a rail jam Friday night, and then the tourny Sat/Sun. Everyone put their boats up but me, and we took the ole Supra to dinner Saturday night. Boat ran great, and had a few offers from buyers, and lots of compliments while it was parked next to the line up of 100k boats.

On the way back we hit up the NASA Space and Rocket Center for some fun. Hit up some flight simulators, and rocked them, girl was impressed that was monitoring. Or just lying to make me feel better. HA!!!

Then of course, I had to take pictures of Black Beauty next to the BlackBird. Two legends in there own worlds.

Newer owner as well , why change the impeller?

Changing the impeller is a routine maintenance item. A lot of people change it every year, some every 2...just personal preference. Why change it? If the impeller fails, the boat will not be able to cool itself. Lack of cooling = boat overheating = end of your day (unless you carry a spare). I have ran across 2 people being towed in this year due to a failed impeller. Both boats were under new ownership and both got up to 200* before they shut them down, and both had no idea what the problem was and so I did what I do best--teach! :)

bimini and leds are too obvious. the bimini looks fantastic though. led's look great too. did you replace the stock bulbs?

driver side dash by the stereo looks a little busier than stock.

your teak looks clean but thirsty. must be roomy without a loveseat.

:D Nice work. I'll be doing a write up on the LEDs and bimini. Stereo is a big mama jammer for sure, but been there. And the teak is getting oiled this week. Ran out of time last week with work.

The seat is the catch, good job. ROOMY AS HELL. That will be getting a write up as well as I think many will like the options.

Finally time to contribute to the monthly picture threads!

I might not have the prettiest boat on the forum (arguably, it's the ugliest), but I do have the prettiest lake. :P
Here's a few shots. I love it here, it's SO gorgeous, the pictures don't really do it justice.

I love how the light-rays are shining through the clouds in this one.

Here's one of the water-falls at the head of the lake (this beauty is blessed with 2 falls).

My brother on the bow of his boat. He loves the lake, such a character! His boat is pretty sweet too. It fits his personality nicely. He loves to show-off and tear it up. It's super fun to drive, it's like a big wave-runner. Shoots a huge rooster-tail and pushes you back in the seat. To think it has the same engine as my Rider (plus an extra carb and performance intake etc.).
A special prize to the first person to figure-out what his "windshield" is.

Took the boat to Norris Lake, TN for a long weekend. Awesome trip. Stayed at Shanghai Marina. Had motel on water with private dock and ramp. The water was the clearest I've
been on in a while. I thought we were in the Carribean or something. The amount of comments these old supra's get on the water is crazy. had people flag us down just to comment about the old boats.

LOL!! I bought the boat and seat to match the shorts, not the other way around.

What is the temp of that water?

Great scenery.

I didn't have a thermometer to measure, but my body said it was "pretty cold". If I had to guess, I would say it was high 50's. The air was like 75 that day. The wind was blowing so the only place to get smooth water is up by the falls where the cliffs shelter the water. Coincidentally, that is also the main inlet for the lake, and the water running-in is direct snow-melt run-off so it's the coldest water in the lake. Thanks be to the wet suit! My poor girlfriend, who is still learning to get-up, got in the water to try and got right back-out. She was like; "How can you get in this?! You're crazy!" I told her it "wasn't bad" but I guess my definition of "not bad" and her's are a little different. A few adult beverages and a nice hot dark-blue vinyl seat helped a little. Not to mention I've been bitten by the wakeboarding bug really bad, so I just don't care.

It can be 85 degrees or warmer out and she will be cold and not stay in the water long. Also, sweat shirts are always packed for her and we have a blanket on the boat at all times for her. She's also cold in the Caymans, wearing pants and a long sleeve shirt while the rest of us are in shorts or at least short sleeve shirts. Pic to show evidence...

Gel Coat! Worked with a friend in the composites industry and he was able to help me mix and spray the boat! Need to add a thinning agent for it to be sprayable, I believe it's called "Durex"? I don't think you can go wrong with paint or gel-coat on one of these old boats, the reason we opted for gel is because the we could wetsand out some of the imperfections, making the prep time substantially less before spraying.

The bottom (Grey/Gunmetal) is a 2-Part epoxy paint that was also suggested to me by the same guy.

Here's a pic we took last night.

This is my buddy Sam behind the boat. This was his first time, and he did a pretty good job!

Wake-plate is about 1.5 inches up from being level with the bottom of the boat.
About 950# of ballast distributed 70% rear 30% front. Myself driving, another guy in the back seat, my GF in the observer's seat, and 2 kids in the bow. So that's about 600# of people basically centered in the boat. I was going a little bit slower than I ride because it was his first time and I didn't want him to have a hard wreck when he went down. Speed's probably about 16-18ish.

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e9/sydneyACE/Supras/Sam6-22-12Como950s4people.jpg

Wake looks pretty good right there but we are going a little too slow. When I ride about 20-22ish it flattens-out some more and gets narrower.

I think it needs MOAR BALLAST lol!
My GF thinks I've gone crazy. I've spent the last couple weeks putting anything heavy that I can find in the boat. I don't want to haul any more solid weight back and forth to the lake, so now I'm just gonna concentrate on creative cheap ideas for water weight.

Do you ski past the sunset law? Do you have that law in Canada?
I might be wrong but I think it's 1/2 hour after sunset.... I was pretty much done at sunset. We got on the lake at 5 and it was glass then to. The lake I ride on only gets choppy when we have a north or south wind over 6-8 mph. Other than that she's pretty calm.... not glass like it's been lately but calm. Worst waves I see are like 6" lol. Lake is only 3 miles long and 1/4 - 1/2 mile wide. and lined with rock and high trees on all sides.

Got out today and had a blast! Long day and met up with several riders, and got a friend up for his first time. I couldn't believe my fortune at having flat water well into early afternoon and no other boats until about the same time! Got some great riding time in and for once wasn't feeling tired or achey.

Stopped around noon for lunch...

First day the water was actually warm, and great conditions!

A couple more days and I'm off to the lake!

Yeah, you're killing me! Great pics...keep 'em coming. The pics of that glass water is just ridiculous! Best looking water shots I've seen on here.
Do you ski past the sunset law? Do you have that law in Canada?
Just out of curiosity I looked it up. Here in Canada you can tow a person from Sunrise to 1 hour after Sunset.

Twilight or civil twilight? There's a difference of about 25-30 minutes between the two.

I think just regular sunset, like what we have to go by for oversized loads..... I don't think I'd ride after 1/2 hour anyways... gets to hard to see the wake, not to mention the skeeters come out in droves.

ngavdba I am truly confident that your Rider is the best I've ever seen. I've never seen that much attention to detail, and originality as yours.

Truly gorgeous boat man, I could look at those pictures all day long. I hope you get to get her out soon.

We got-out this weekend for some more fun!
Went to the lake Saturday afternoon and camped-out then left Sunday evening.
I was playing with the ballast some more to try and get it right.
Put some more weight in the rear to steepen-up the wake a little. (Before I felt like I wasn't getting enough vertical pop.)
*FYI lining the rear ski-locker with plastic then filling it up with water is a pretty easy way to get an extra 240#s of ballast in the back. :)
I ended-up getting a few really nice jumps (for a new guy) where I got plenty of vertical air and still got a nice soft wake-to-wake landing.

Anyway, on to the pics:

Here's on of my little guy playing on the ramp. He's so funny when he's trying to "cheez-it-up" for the camera, he always jutts-out his lower jaw. LOL!
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e9/sydneyACE/Supras/SDC10064.jpg

You can see I got about halfway done wet-sanding on this side. LOL! I don't care, I'd rather be boating than wet-sanding and polishing. :P
http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e9/sydneyACE/Supras/SDC10067.jpg

Ballast is about 1000lbs here. This is without the home-made "fat sack" in the ski-locker full.

After seeing pictures of ngavdba's beautiful Rider, I'm almost embarassed to post pics of mine. In my defence though, It's better than when I bought it. So, at least I'm making it better, not worse. She's a work in-progress, still needs lots of time and TONS of $ spent before she's good again. Luckily, in the mean time, it's been doing a great job providing lots of fun for myself and my family.

You guys are just saying the boat's pretty cause I was careful not to take any close-ups. Hehehe!

As for the quote, I have to admit I cheated and googled it. I was just gonna guess "Lonesome Dove", cause I think one of the guys gets killed right after they make-it to Montana. (One of my favorites)

After I looked, I remembered it was "The Hunt for Red October". The part where he was talking about living in MT with a pick-up and rabbits and stuff always makes me laugh.

Here's another beautiful MT lake pick just for good measure:

That one does have a lot of feet that's disturbing.

I have a lot more but these are the only ones that pass the wife screening.
There is a video somewhere of my first attempt at a backroll will try to get that up so you all can have a good laugh.

Yeah, buddy! I've been doing some wet-sanding this spring already. If you look closely in some of the pictures, you can see I made it about halfway back on the starboard side and I did a little patch on the port where my registration numbers go. I'm taking a break from-it though for a while.

My Bro's GF posted some pics of Sunday on Facebook. So I figured I would share those too.

Took my little guy for a ride on the Jet-ski:

http://i36.photobucket.com/albums/e9/sydneyACE/Supras/PaintedRocks.jpg

And last but not least, she got a pic of the Supra too. (I've heard this is a Supra forum.)
This is with my rear "fat sac" full, 4 adults and 2 kids. The ballast is about 1400lbs, and I'd say about 700lbs of people.
With my 13x12.5 prop, it took about 7-10 seconds for her to get all the way out-of the water with me behind her. I'd say I've reached my limit with this prop. The wake was BIG though and very firm, kinda steep-ish, gave me a nice vertical pop without having to cut-in super hard and end-up landing in the flats. I don't have any plans to put more weight in her as of right-now. I'm sure with enough skill (keep practicing Trav) a guy could do some HUGE tricks behind this boat.

Wowsers, lots of action while I've been away. All the boats are looking great - especially since they're on the water, being used & enjoyed by the owners, families, and friends. Mine's back in the garage waiting for final tower install & few odds & ends, but hope to take her out again soon.

No, it's not a Supra & not mine, but did manage to enjoy the water while the wife & I celebrated our 20th anniversary and 5 years cancer-free for her down in St. Lucia.
