Ive never installed a tower on a boat but I am very handy. But like many of you i am deadly afraid of putting holes in a boat. Does anyone have any tips? Or any pictures? It's going on a 1990 Comp so if you know anything about them it would help me out immensely.

Find the general location for the feet cover that area in blue painters tape.
You can measure make markes and not worry about your gelcoat.
The biggest problem I had was finding a good place to measure from.

I've installed 2 thus far... I roughly put the tower together on the ground and see how I roughly want it. Good way to get base measurements if you need them. What kind of tower?... if your handy and have a helper should take a couple of hours.

The holes didn't bother me it was the 3000.00 dollar paint job I was pukered up about scratching. It's a 2 man job but get 3 more if you can lol. The more the merrier.

I have always run the drill in reverse until you get thru the gelcoat whenever putting holes in it. Once thru, then go forward - otherwise it will chip - even with the tape.
I agree, 2-3 people would be a must - or some way to "hang the tower" so you're not trying to hold it still, lift it - drill, etc all at the same time.

Another thing is use a grinding stone to chanter the holes. Its supposed to help keep it from spider cracking.

Measure, measure, measure! Use several different points to measure from. Make sure the tower clears the windshield when it folds down. Use backing plates under the cap where the legs mount.
