Shaft packing material size required

I have a 2001 Supra Legacy that was leaking quite a bit from the shaft packing nut. I tightened it about a month ago until the leak was down to the recommended drip every 15-30 seconds. I noticed the bilge pump kicking on a lot this past weekend and believe the leak may have resumed (had too many people in the boat pull up rear floor panel to check for sure).

Going to check it this weekend and want to have some rope packing material in hand in case I need to replace it. Does anyone know what size packing material I need? Is 3/16" or 1/4" required for a 2001 Legacy?

I called Supra and they verified mine was 3/16. They were very helpful and it took about one minute. Good luck.

I also have the Legacy, and my packing material is 1/4 inch.

SkiDim claims you can always substitute 1/4" for 3/16" packing and it will work the same.
