Well I finally got around to replacing my Roswell 6.5 tower speakers with the new Rev8 from Wetsounds. I am using my existing Clarion 2 channel marine
amp for now its a 2121 model?? I think it puts out 90 or 180 watts per channel.Any how my question is should I use Wetsounds SYN2 or SYN4 (bridged)
amps which are a class AB analog amp with a class H power supply or should I listen to my stereo guy's advice and use a Alpine F6 4 channel class D digital amp??? I have been told that Analog amps are more pronounced for the midrange of listening spectrum, whereas new class D amp are more for the higher and lower spectrum of music reproduction which seems like that is what all the young fellas in there 20's and 30's prefer to hear with all there Techno rock. I have also heard the Syn series is very efficient with its power usage or current draw from your batteries.Would a Syn4 bridged to two channels be to much power for these speakers?? 400 watts per channel** Alpine F6 bridged would be 300 watts per channel. Two friends are using this Alpine amp to power 4 wet sounds pro 80 speakers and thier boats sound incredible**

Any thoughts or suggestions would help and let me know if anyone is selling either Alpine or Wetsounds amps.

Thanks Dave:confused:

First of all, does your "stereo guy" have a horse in this race? My guess is that he sells Alpine products and/or makes more money on them. I think anyone will tell you that too much power is better than not enough. The WetSounds amps have a reputation for being rugged, efficient and low-heat producing. Alpine doesn't have any of those.

If sound is what matters the most, test them both in your boat. It's the only way you'll know for sure.

If it were me, the Alpine would only be under consideration if it had more power and/or was cheaper.

I recently did exactly what your doing. Replace my roswell rack with a pair of rev 8s and they are killer. I used a JL Audio MHD 600/4 bridged and they get insanely loud. I'm with Wotan I really wouldn't consider putting an alpine amp in.

For me I went with the class D because:
A) good things come in small packages
B) it stays pretty cool
C) when I'm out on the water the speakers are on none stop and having a class d puts less strain on the battery

The JL brand is extremely reputable but WS also just released a line of class d amps too.

LOL at the consideration of midrange biase, etc of different types of amps.

I'm an audiophile guy, I've got a bunch of high end audio equipment in my home, but on the boat it's NOT an optimum listening environment and you are NOT going to hear any difference whatsoever between different classes of amps.

I bought wetsounds amps with my rev8s because I knew they were made for the speakers and marine environment, but don't worry about the class.

I am looking at JL Audio XD400/4 for 299.00 it puts out 200 watts at 4 ohms bridged, this is what my Rev8 speakers are rated for. I know they can handle more power
but is it needed?? Your amp is twice the price, I could get a wetsounds syn6 for around the same money.I like the size of JL amp as I have limited space where existing amp is mounted .

Had a look at Wetsounds new class d amps, they make a ht4 that will put out 300 watts bridged for 449.00 so I will probably use thier product

I have 4 Alpine amp in the current boat 1- M12 and 3 F6.... So far they have kick butt 2 f6 amps driving the 4 rev10s and one f6 amp driving 8 61/2 Wet Sounds and the M12 amp is driving 2 Rockford 12" P3 subs.... All of it is controled by the Wet Sound WS420... Very very loud if you want it but it is extremly clear....
