what is the best way to help avoid the stringer rot? add more drains in the floors? what is the best way to check for it?

You can get your boat/trailer weighed. Compare the boats weight to what it should be. If it is a ton heavier, you most likely have issues. Does your boat sit level in the water? If not, you may have issues. Simple tests that require no tools and may reveal that your boat is saturated. Dig into the archieves as many members have done complete stringer jobs themselves and included photos the whole way. Good luck.

Keep the boat dry. Let water run/drip/shake off boards/ropes/vests before putting them in the boat. Allow boat to air out for several hours before covering. When done with boat for the day pull seat cushions forward a bit so air can get behind/under/around them. Prop doghouse cover slightly and remove any access ports (bilge pump hole cover, etc.) to allow vetination into the bilge. Remove both drain plugs when boat is not in water.

Basically all you can do to prevent rot is try to keep the boat dry and store it in a way that allows the most ventilation possible to all areas. If your stringers are already wet and rotting, it's only a matter of time before they'll be too far gone and need replacing. Could be right now, could be years from now. Allowing things to dry as best you can is all you can do.
