bought an acme 541 for my 87 Saltare.... I cannot believe the difference... any way you slice it made it feel brand new.. even my wife asked if I had put a new engine in it and not told her......

Yep - cool huh? I switched to the Acme 543 last summer. Better hole shot than even my 4-blade OJ and more top-end to boot!

Discount Inboard Marine recommended the 543 and I just took their advice without any research. The 12- pitch 541 may be more appropriate in the big block boat vs the 11.5 pitch for the small block? Got me, but I'm real happy with the 543 on my boat.

541 makes mine feel like a big block compared to before.

Spent some time on the phone with Acme today as I plan on ordering a new prop. 541 is closest to OE on my boat - '86 Sunsport. Still differences in construction, surface area, etc. will make the 541 significantly better than OE.
543 was their recommendation based on my goals, multi-purpose use, average number of occupants and ballast. 543 is a little more aggressive and will provide a better holeshot than the 541 - but lacks approximately 1.5 mph in top end.
'Props' to Acme for their expertise and time on the phone.

Is the Saltare 454 a LH turn or RH turn? Also is it a 1:1 or 1:1.2(something)

Im looking for good hole shot and not so worried about top end and was talking to Jim (I think) at ACME and he asked me those questions, and I was unable to answer him because my boat was getting a cover made for it and I have been out of town for the last 2 weeks.

Chris - I'm sure you'll be happy with the 543 . . . . HUGE improvement for the OEM prop.

First of all, he lives!!! Secondly, you've been talking about this "new" 5-blade prop for quite some time which begs the question, just how "new" is it?

I'm holding out for the 24 blade prop like the one I have at work...that sucker has some serious pull and acceleration!!!

Wow!
Strong holeshot and pull. More top end to boot (almost 3 mph over my OE - 13x13).
Wow!
