concern for size of wake

Looking for your thoughts with regards to the size of wake some of our boats are now putting out on the water ways and the effect it has on other boaters and the folks they are towing , shoreline erosion , pier damage , moored boats etc. In the past few years I have seen some monster wakes being produced that has caused some concern, often with disregard for others also enjoying the water. Any "rules of the road " you guys go by? suggestions? comments?

Fortunately where I live and play there are many miles of uninhabited lake shores and rivers. There are a few areas where we do shut it down and keep the wake to a minimum but not many. I will keep the wake down if we are near any area that a big wake would cause problems. The only ones that I have no respect for and would happily swamp are those bottom feeding scum in jet boats.
