Adding Trailer Brakes

I have a 94 Supra TS6M that I trailer at least 100 miles every weekend. I've been thinking about adding trailer brakes for added safety. Has anyone ever added trailer brakes and if so, how did you accomplish the task? Is it better to get a whole new axle or can you add them to the existing? Thanks.

This is a trailer thing - the boat type is not required. Find the trailer name - look at spindles behind the tires for places to mount the brake kits. Buy entire brake kits from a local trailer shop. Made sure to run the tubing and replace the hitch with a surge one so the brakes work.
