Well I been slowly getting at this rebuild but I am almost ready to drop it off at my friends shop to get it in line for new stringers and a new floor. I have a nice list of to do's for this project but main thing first is stringer and floor, new mufflers, and hopefully new interior. If budget allows hopefully some new wet sound speakers for the tower and build an eclosure to have 6 of them up there. I have to decide on the fill & drain system or wet sound speakers but I am leaning more towards the speakers. I can still use my bilge over the side to fill it up and install the system later on. I am working out a deal with my friend so FAE might be installed also as payment for painting his V Star for him.

Here is some pictures of what has been done so far.

Yeah this is the so called supra star. The floors were pretty bad and it didn't help that the previous owner was not the brightest. He let it sit uncovered and with the plugs in so it sat with the floor flooded at one point. I got a friend price on replacing the floor, stringers, and gel coating the stringer and floor when finished up. He is also going to put foam while he is rebuilding the floor. Was glad I have a friend doing this type of work and letting him put the shop sticker on my boat kind of helped out lol.

The chrysler runs great but I need to look at the carb and give it a rebuild. I am also going to drop the oil pan and put a new gasket while it's out and clean up the motor and give it some new paint. We ran all summer and no issues with it other than when it idles it would sometimes die out like it was starving for fuel and would be fine with a little pump of the throttle here and there. The trailer I liked that idea also and while the boat is gone I have plenty of room in storage to work on the motor but it was holding one of my stand up jet ski's but put it on a dolly so I can sit the motor on the trailer for now. The shop is where I work at and they make it easy for me when I need to do something. I had to use the hydraulic press to push out to seized pistons in a jet ski motor. The hoist and large compressor made it easy to get everything unbolted to pull out and build the motor stand for the trailer.

Any updates?

Sorry no update right now since it's still waiting for my friend to get to it. I did get an update last week that he is getting caught up since we been having some warmer days for his work to dry faster. I plan on calling him this weekend to see when he thinks it will go in for the work to be done. I am trying to see if I can get some updates of the motor after this weekend. I want to take it to work and clean it up then scuff up the motor parts to give it a new coat of blue engine paint.

Well it finally went in to my friends shop and we are talking tonight how to do the back section of my floor. He wants to gel coat and spray lime green webbing and not lay down some carpet on the floor. I just need to figure a way to get to the rudder area and when I finally have more money to plumb in a wake ballast system. He was asking about hatches but I have to see what he is talking about since I am not sure what he is talking about.

I finally decided to do the all black hull and some lime green lines. I kind of want to do my spin and make it look kind of like the 2013 model I see on the main page with the paint job.

Here is the first picture he sent me on it and he cut out the motor mount area. I will try and get more of anything else they did tonight while I am over there.

Thanks for the pics. I don't know that I've seen motor mounts done like that before. How is he going to bring the exhaust pipes into the engine area?

We planned to use the same muffler tubes and hoses and leave it how it was setup. The tips are still on the back of the boat so we are not changing anything up on it. I have to talk to him because I do plan on changing the tips out for the FAE I want to put in later on. so I need to see how he is going to leave it for my to change it out.

Ok, I'll just have to see how that comes together. I'm not seeing how you'll get the tube into the motor area with that engine mount in the way.

A couple more while they were starting on cutting the pieces to the floor. Hopefully my friend took some more pictures so I can post them up here as well.

Here is a few more teaser shots. I can't believe my friend had done so much this fast but I like how it looks compared to how it was. I was thinking like maybe two weeks to get this done but I guess not lol. If anyone in the Houston area wants to know who is doing the work my friends shop is South Texas Boat Works.

a_deleon
02-21-2013, 09:12 PM
Yeah he is moving fast. I was thinking it was going to cut it close with the mounts and the exhaust but he pulled it off. I can't wait to get it back so I can get started sanding it down for paint.

That is cool. So you're not using carpet? Your man does some nice work, but a gel floor on a ski boat just isn't for me. I like the look and feel of carpet. But this is looking good and looks to be super strong. I don't recall, did you put foam back under the floor?

a_deleon
02-23-2013, 02:06 AM
Yeah I wanted to do carpet but he was willing to coat the floor as well so figured I would try out the gel floor. If anything I could always put carpet in it later. He did the same on his fishing boat and it looks nice and like that I can add a little more green to my boat. He said he was putting the foam back in it. He still has to cut out the openings for the round plates to put in so I can get under the floor for the exhaust tips and front bilge pump. So I get to go pick it up Monday so I can get started sanding for paint.

Are you painting the gelcoat exterior?

a_deleon
02-23-2013, 04:47 PM
I plan on painting the top half of the boat. My lower half was painted and hodls up pretty good so I wanted to do the same for the top half. I went to check out the boat this afternoon and it looks good in person. I can't wait to get it home so I can start doing prep work so I can paint it soon. I just ordered haze gray top side paint and another quart of black to touch up the very bottom of the boat also.

a_deleon
02-23-2013, 04:51 PM
I am going to paint the top half of the boat. The bottom half is painted so figured I would do the same on top as well. I was trying to do this build on a limited budget so paint would be the cheapest way to go. Plus I never gel coated anything but I can spray paint really nice so be easy for my DYI build. I have some haze gray coming in soon along with some more black paint to touch up the bottom of the boat since they only painted the sides and the bottom is still a red color.

So I went to talk to some of the audio dealers in my area to see if any deals on some replacement speakers for my tower. I was going to get the DB series in polk to replace all 4 on the tower for when we are just hanging out. One dealer had the kicker km6200's for $99 a pair and sounded like a better deal for those instead of the DB series. So I just picked up 2 pairs to replace the tower speakers and hopefully next year I can up grade and move these down to the inside of the boat.

I need a few yes or no's from some of the members. I was thinking and that I didn't like that break from the haze gray and the coated floor. I wanted to stripe that break in the colors with like black and lime green. If I should do something like that, keep it simple with a black line, or not do anything at all and leave it alone.

TitanTn
03-12-2013, 10:53 AM
I'd break it with a stripe. Anything else will be hard to make look straight. You might check out some sign shops for a roll of vinyl. It's very easy to apply, straight edges, no fuss. And a variety of widths from 1/4 inch up to as thick as you want it.

a_deleon
03-12-2013, 11:18 AM
Yeah I could grab some stuff like that at the auto parts store. I seen that pin stripe vinyl there at the store. I might go check it out since I am picking up the sublime paint from duplicolor at the parts store today. I am going with matte clear on the green paint instead of gloss since the gray is gloss.

Here is the green paint I am going to use for my stripes on the top side.

Well I been just wiring things back up and taking care of small items that just needed to get done so nothing really that big going on until this weekend. I did build my new bench seat frames for the front and back seats. Hope to have some interior pics this weekend for you but here is the new bimini top put on and it fits under my tower and speakers. Looks so much better than when I first started.
