Just in the process of shopping/buying our first tow boat. Not much selection used here in Ontario for the older boats but I did come across an 85 SunSport with the front bench???? what is up with this? can it be changed? modified? any comments would be appreciated. Also wondering if this model is one you get stuck with as no one else will ever want it? and why did Supra build a tow boat with no oberver seat?

Am I missing something?
Also, if anyone knows of any 80's Supra's in Ontario pleas let me know. I am a Fibreglass guy so nothing scares me.

Cheers, Hugh

welcome to the site.

do you have pics?...are you talking about a bench seat for observer instead of swivel chair?

sunsport is a great boat...not too big, not too small. solid wake that only gets better with weight. gets good mileage, well better than a saltare.

the main thing to worry about is stringer/floor rotting.

I tried to import the image from kijiji but no luck, its a 2 1/2 seat bench starting at the drivers side but everyone faces forward? was this and option? you can only get around the motor on the port side.

sounds like the love seat captain's chair but i don't recall ever seeing one in a sunsport. there's no observer seat facing back? that's weird.

the love seat from what i know was only on saltares...maybe piratas too....

Thats the seat...but make it even wider with just enough space to squeeze by on the left????

Just take a sawzall to the seat and cut it down to size...

Just kidding, take a pic of the seat base or seat track for us. That way we can see what you have to work with.

Think this is the boat in question.....

If it is run..... Way too much $$

This is a much better boat... Not much more but well worth it. IMO.

There are many others in the States. Not very hard to import them.

That's crazy! Crappy seat for the driver and no seat for the observer. I'm with DAFF, the other one would be better.

Also notice no ski pole! That's a disaster if you want to ski behind it, you can't seriously slalom from a tower.

Thanks for all the replies, correct on all accounts. The first issue is that all boats are about 5 hours away so even a quick look is a full day trip and both boats are in storage.

Yes, the Sunsport is rough...looks like it has had a tough life.
The Saltare is much better!
So far in Ontario those are the only older tow boats on the market.

Looks liker our SunRay will be sold this week so I will have some cash burning a hole in my pocket and you have to spend toy money fast or you might do something stupid like pay a bill!!

Where in Ontario are you from?? There is a very tough Ski Umbrella in Windsor for $$3500. My advice is to hold out for the perfect boat, one will show up in time.

You will more than likely have to drive 8hrs plus to find it......

Agree with DAFF, hold out for a boat around here. With our climate these boats are always abused. I thought I had a mint 85' Comp.....mint was the wrong word.

If your not looking for a pure wakeboard boat, there is a super clean Malibu Response on Trader for 10k in Ottawa. http://wwwa.autotrader.ca/a/Malibu/Response/OTTAWA/Ontario/19_6783249_/?ms=boats

Thanks again, still looking for an open bow so the Ottawa boat is wrong, and out of my price range. What the heck is a ski umbrella?
