Picture of my best bud on his 50th birthday - first trip out this year. He had always wanted to ski in the snow (he went and did that this morning) - and then come back home and ski in the water.

My part in his "bucket list" adventure ...

(yes, that's a drysuit - the water is 50 degrees and the air was low 60's)

After the ride, he was STOKED!

Put her in today. It was about 50 degrees here in Ohio. Really windy. Lake had white caps on the waves. lol. Rented a dock for the week so I could replace the bunks and paint the trailer. Don't like leaving her in the water, but that is the only way I can get her off the trailer. Won't start a thread about my trailer because I don't think I will do as good a job as some of you have. But it will be better than it is right now.

Come on Gogger, you need to show us what you do to the trailer, even if it's just a quickie rehab. It's going to have to be if you're doing it in a week. I hit mine hard and it still took three weeks. BTW, it looks like you only got 1/2 a slip. I hope it was half price too!

Here is a pic from our little outing today when I picked put my boat back on the trailer. You can see the trailer pics on my restoration page (link in sig).

Well we finally have the boat back with its new interior! As you can imagine we are impatient to get to the water! But after spending time in Maryville with Donny and more time here in the Atlanta area at an interior shop, there were a number of things that needed to be addressed. Speedoes were re-done over the winter and had to be installed, the dash has been covered and things were a bit of a mess and wiring misconnected, oil had to be changed, ski locker repaired an re installed.....So no lake for us this week end. But I think we are are ready for next week. Yipee  Here are a few pics of the "finished" product. Is a boat ever really finished?

I forgot to take pictures... but over the weekend I did a full interior clean with Totally Awesome followed up by a couple coatings of 303. It looked great even after 6-7 years of neglect from the previous owner. Also washed the whole thing down and gave it it's first coat of wax in probably that same amount of time. Sad... I also replaced a ballast drain pump, cleaned out the ski locker, cleaned the ballast bags, replaced my nav light bulb, rewired my tower, started wiring the rest of the boat (ran out of wire), and sat in it making vroom vroom sounds with a beer in my driveway. It was a long day. I'll take some pics of it when I pick it up from the trailer service place. It's getting some brake work and coupler work done on it.

I will post pics of the progress. Basically I am wire brushing off the loose stuff and thick rust. Then brushing on the krud kutter rust converter. And then I am going to prime it and paint it, thinking flat black with diamond paint for a murdered out look. Diamond plate fenders. New bunks and carpet.

I want to put a sticker on the back of my boat that says "Official Towboat of Your Mom". lol My daughters plates on her truck are YURMOM.

So here is some of what I did tonight.

It's actually tiny but beautiful.

Last year I was out there and we rented that X15 that the marina had for an afternoon to do some surfing and boarding. It was a great day. That boat was not propped correctly though. It had issues getting on plane with me wakeboarding behind it and 9 others in the boat. That shouldn't happen... probably just didn't have the right prop for altitude. I wish that was my home base haha.

Trailer looks brand new!

Why does your tower always look crooked to me? Is it slightly askew?

gogger
05-16-2013, 05:17 PM
It is askew. It wasn't tightened up real tight. And with the short dock I had to do some acrobatics to get the mooring cover back on and leaned way out on it and it shifted. I will get it right once I get it back home.

I have to thank you Daniel. I believe you were the first person I heard from here when I first posted. You calmed me down significantly. And you referred me to Donny Bennett. It has been a interesting journey over the last year. I bought the Pirata last February and have hustled to get it this far along. Working on the trailer is wearing me out. I can't imagine trying to to the stringers yourself. Those that have, are and will do it themselves have my respect.

The conversation with my wife about purchasing a boat is still clear in my head. I told her I would love to get one, but it had to be an inboard ski boat. And this was the only one I looked at. I probably should have looked around more, but it all worked out and I love the pirata.

The guys that go boarding with me thought I was crazy when I told them I had bought a boat. But now they love it almost as much as I do. Can't wait to try out all the new boards we got over the winter. Hopefully we will be hitting the water next week.

Replaced the rubber on the trailer with diamond plate. Really improved the look.
The rubber was coming off on some, and the ends were curling up. Sprayed with 3M Super 90 (or whatever their strongest adhesive is) to get by the end of last year. Pulled the pads and put 5200 on the rubber (white stuff in the rubber pic), but the sides still curled even though I had them clamped with boards. Pulled that up and put the diamond plate down with rivets.

Gogger - great job on the trailer, and I look forward to seeing it in person at the reunion. You've got some beautiful looking land there, and I really admire the A.C. That's what I grew up using, and I actually just hauled my dad's here yesterday for storage and a potential rebuild.

Thanks, the trailer is about a 20 footer. Any closer and you can see the imperfections. But it looks way better than it did a week ago. Needs some new wheels, or I need to paint these. Not sure which.

For some reason I wound up with two AC 180's and one of my guys has a d-15. I guess they were cheap horse power. They all run great. I would like a new tractor but not looking to spend 50 grand. So they will have to do for a while.

Everything is nice and green. Wet spring. I can hardly keep up with the mowing.

I will be there for sure!

Looks like you guys had the lake to yourselves. I was wondering, too, what A.C. meant. Got it now.

I think okie posted a while back about shining his trailer wheels up with aircraft stripper. It's been in the back of my mind needing to do it.

Great work, Gogger. I know you've mentioned that the blue gel isn't your favorite color but I think she's a real head turner.

Weekdays we usually have the lake pretty much to ourselves. Columbus has to basically two main lakes Alum Creek is North and Deer Creek is south. Alum is in an area that is way more populated, and it is a bigger lake. So it is much busier. I can remember before they open Alum Creek, Deer Creek was way more popular. The beach at Deer creek was always packed when I was a kid. The state built a nice building with lockers, showers and a concession stand. There were life guards on duty. Nowadays none of that. The building is getting run down and they don't maintain the bathrooms/showers. While Alum Creek continues to grow. They opened another Marina there this year. But to me Alum is way too crowded and the water is always rough since there are some many people on it. If it was the only place to go, I would go out a lot less. I love Deer Creek. Too bad no property available on it to build a house or I would. Griggs reservoir is just north of downtown Columbus, great place to ski/board. Not real big, but long and narrow and the waves stay down. That is mainly where the inboard ski boats are around here. We went there last year once, and had a good time. I hope to hit it a couple more times this year.

Well I wanted to bring the boat home, the trailer was almost ready. Just need to get the fenders. So we went out for a couple hours, then loaded her up and headed home. Started pouring rain while we were loading, but it loads easier on the redone trailer for some reason. Bunks must have been keeping from going on easy before.

Looks pretty good. Hull was yucky from sitting in the water all week. So I pressure washed it when we got home.

Well we made it to water for the second time today. First time was last Monday. Got into the water but had fuel issues. Got it home, drained and cleaned the tank and flushed the lines, ran it in the driveway again, serviced the trailer bearings and went back to the lake. Ive never seen Lake Allatoona this high. Watch out if you are in GA and headed that way. Lots of junk in the water.

Boat ran perfect. The new prop is wonderful. It solved all the vibration issues we had last year. redone speedos were perfect as well till one got clogged again. Neither of us got in the water, just ran the boat around checking everything out. Great day.

Shouldn't the boat eye hook be touching the roller? seems like the boat is not far enough on the trailer? Just asking since I never owned an older Boat/trailer like that and I was told pull my boat up till eye is resting against the rollers

O'Neill Farmer john with jacket. Gloves. Heater in the boat for afterwards--but no hot water shower (not a big deal on that one. Doubt I'd bother). Also have a shorty suit for later.

How can you own a boat & not have a wetsuit?
