I'm wondering if anyone has mounted one these as far as the best location. Its one that requires me drilling a hole thru my hull........so I'd only like to drill once !!

Thinking in the bilge pump area or under the fly wheel ??

Thanks

Which model do you have? There's often recommendations in the manual.

Its a HawkEye..... The instructions say mount it close to the centerline

Pretty sure I have that same make and model on my boat. You might be able to get by with epoxying it to the hull back by the transmission and close to the centerline like it says. I ended up mounting my externally and just outside my starboard exhaust outlet and have had zero issues with it there.

I ordered the Hummingbird Digital over the winter and installed, mine also had the temp but if you're wanting to read the water temp you have to install on the outside of your boat. I used marine epoxy and installed on my center line right behind the tranny. Easy to hide the wires and bring them back to the helm, it reads perfect and even at mid/high speeds. If you want I can take a picture of where/how mine was installed tonight.

Please do. I've mounted my hummingbird in 3 different places and it still doesn't work. I suspect my transceiver is bad but I'm just so sick of it. :(

What's that thru-hull on the right side of that photo?

Thats the original one (or so I think), I just left it alone and didn't even take the wires out. The one I bought couldn't be set with a "thru hull", it had to be set on the back(transom) of the boat, then drill a hole for the wire to go thru. If you did that apparently they read better and you can also get the water temp. I didn't feel like taking my gas tank out, or my seat. So I went for the easy quick way, and just epoxy to the hull like the directions said. I have only had it in the water 5 or 6 times this spring, but so far worked well for me even with running around 25mph.

To install this one I drill a 2-inch hole through the bottom of the boat.. I had a read through the hull on my last boat and it was ok but this one reads depth and water temp.

I wanted to wait till I got home so I could some pictures. I have a humming bird, I used the transom mount. dilled through the hull and used 5200 to seal everything. Mine reads water temp as well, and I have never had any problems with it not reading properly.
