Hello all, I'm new to the forum, just bought my first boat about three weeks ago, an '87 Supra Super Comp. Sharp boat, but the previous owner (who I've known practically my whole life) has no patience for mechanic work. He kept telling me it was overheating, so I ran it on a hose and the temp gauge pegged on high after running maybe 10 minutes. Shut it down, put in a new 160 degree T-stat, checked the water impeller and found chunkage which I cleared, started again and it pegged again. Hooked up a mechanical gauge and it fluctuated between 160 and 180 as the T-stat opened and closed, wiring to the gauge is ok, the gauge seems to be ok, that leaves the temp sending unit which I cannot find a replacement for to save my life. Napa cross referenced the part numbers and told me it was discontinued. My boat has the PCM 351 engine and VDO gauges. Thanks in advance for the replies!
