I a getting ready to changine the stuffing in my packing box. On closer examination it looks like the stuffing box hose has seen better days. There are no holes, but its a little swolen and chewed up at the ends, and I mind as well replace it while I am in there. I found a place that sells the propper 6 ply heavy duty hose, but I am not sure what size inner diamatier to order? Has anyone changed this hose an remember what it is for a 1987 Sunsport 351 velvet?

here is the site for the hose

Here is the very informative How to I found as well.

I just did mine this weekend, I may have over tightened it a bit because I had to back it out a bit before it would drip while stopped and it was hot to the touch after about 15 minutes of run time. I backed it off until it started to drip while stopped, and then tightened it just enough to stop the drip. Not the right way to do it based on your link, but it'll do for the summer I think. He says in the link not to turn the nut to get the packing in, but I couldn't get it inside the nut any other way. I didn't try his split pipe though. I will say it's a dead simple job to do though. I'm glad I did mine because it looked like the last guy to do it just cut a strip of carpet and coiled it a couple of times around the shaft, not sure how much it would have leaked, but not the right way for sure.
