As stated in another thread I had my 87 Comp out for the first time yesterday. I though they had a 20 gallon tank. The previous owner said he though it was 15. It was very low (fuel light and gauge below E) when I filled it up and sure enough it took 14.7 gallons. Now the gauge only showed a little over 3/4 when it was full. Is this normal? I know the gauge or sender may be out of calibration after 26 years of bouncing around the lake but is 15 gallons correct?

If you can figure out how to get more than 15 gallons of gas in the gas tank, let us know your secret.

I would suggest a new sending unit and possibly gauge! With .3 gallon left, that's fumes.

That answers my question. Thanks!

I have a 1989 brochure that show the fuel tank capacity on an 89 comp at 21 U S Gallons
Doubt the 87 is any different.

I've never been able to get more than 13 gallons in my boat. I guess maybe I don't run it down that low but still, I calibrated the fuel quantity indicator when I got the boat and when my gauge is just above empty it takes 13-ish gallons.

Strange! Wonder if your float gets stuck at a certain point?

Exactly! That's what I was thinking. But there is no way I am getting more that 15 gallons in this boat. I literally ran the thing dry. It wouldn't start and the clear fuel filter was empty so I know it was out of gas. Unless there is a problem with the pickup in my tank and it didn't suck out 5 gallons. Anything is possible at this point......

Very well could be. Who knows, but looking at the tank dimensions, or what I can see at least and guessing on the depth I too thought the tank capacity would be greater than 15 gallons. I'll maybe see if I can run it bone dry over the 4th of July weekend and then measure how much gas I can get in there.

If all else fails, measure the tank and do the math. :D Y'all remember that right? The stuff your teacher said you'd have use someday. Well here it is.

I know math, my problem is that I have to unbolt my rear bench to get at it now and even then it still has a greater difficulty rating accessing the tank on the comp/conbrio than your battleship of a boat.

Well, can't really argue with that can we? Not only is it in print, but it's also now on the Internet and everyone knows that the Internet never has bad information...lol

yes --but now we don't have to do Haugy's math exam!!

Funny how a math exam became a Calculus one with a quick swoop of the mouse:)
