My old 87 Supra has a Maxxima original equipment stereo. I want to upgrade but I'm obviously not going to find a wiring harness/plug that matches the original. I can't find wiring diagrams of the old Maxxima stereos. The question to those of you who have upgraded is- How do you figure out the wiring for the new stereo?

i re-wired all of my speakers, the old wires were crappy.

that leaves you power, ground, remote power for the amp, and antenna. i also re-wired the power and grounds while i was doing the rest. the last one shouldn't be too hard to figure out (the antenna is obvious too).

your new stereo will have it's wires labeled, find the remote turn on and hook that to the amp.....you're done with that part. the place you're buying it from can also probably sell a wiring harness to plug into the new stereo's plug and connect to the wires to the speakers/power/ground/etc.

good luck, use heavy gauge power and ground wires and don't forget the fuses.

Salty,
You're right, the wires are crappy, but I don't think I could snake new wires along the double hull. Were all your wires brown? Mine are, so other than having someone try to yank on them to identify them there is no way to tell + or -, left, right. The Maxxima stereo wire are color coded in some kind of weird green, green-white combination that is not standard and I can't contact Maxxima/Pancor. Anthony told me to contact clarion, that didn't help.

Don't you think that these repairs seem overwhelming at first, and then you figure out a way around....

I tried to post some accompanying photos, but it never works the way I do it,

yup, mine were brown too.....looked like radio shack's special of the week a few decades ago

it wasn't too hard to re-run the wires, but i did not run them through the original tubing the factory ran them through....it's still an improvement though.

the bow was really easy, the rear speakers were tough. i took a hangar and bent it to make a snake. it worked OK. a tape metal tape measure works really good for running up the hull, tape the wires to it and real them in.
