$14k at the top end, I think.

I don't think any of us have done this work as an investment.

I've got over 10k into mine, I'm sure (just not all at once.) And I know that your boat is nicer!

$8k to $10k easily, $12k maybe pushing it on a SunSport. Doesn't matter how many bells and whistles you put on it. I would say the value would be greater if you include a drivers seat in the sale and inflated tires.
ha ha ha ha !! i have the seat at upholsters getting the side cut out for the OL' knee in the seat action , and i backed it in the other day and the freakin tire separated ... lol i got some used for now ... what do yall value your boats at ?

Its going to take me quite a few years of enjoyment to get my initial investment back, but thats why I did mine and I know it will last forever.

Lots of cosmetic work but what about the mechanicals and the under deck structure. Nothing kills resale value like questionable or rotten stringers. I would agree 8 to 12K its still a 86 boat .

My boat is an '89 Saltare, so not the samae but Saltare and SunSport should have similar values for any 80s through 91 boat with Saltare being slightly higher. I have it insured for $12,500 and feel I could get that from the right buyer. I've turned down an offer for $10k when I was considering selling it. So for mine I'd put the value somewhere around $10k-$13k depending on how quickly I wanted to sell it. To replace with another Saltare, do stringers, engine, interior, add all my upgrades, Perfect Pass, etc. it would probably cost at the high end of that.

i agree with the ballpark these guys are talking about.

another limiting factor is what the mid 90's composite boats are selling for. i've seen some of them going for $14-15k. granted you prob have newer upholstery but as the value of those boats decline it will have an effect on the value of our older yet restored boats to most buyers. there will still be the occasional buyer who appreciates a restoration but many will simply compare an 86 vs a 93 (for example) and decide they'd rather the newer boat if the costs are similar.

I honestly don't think I've ever seen pictures of your boat before. I'd remember the orange. Looks like you've put some serious time into it.

Everyone's pretty much on par, but I always set my boats at what I think they are worth. Many times you can find a buyer that agrees. My last boat sold for more than most would have ever valued a Mariah at. But it was pristine, had all the features the buyer wanted, and for him it was ready to go with nothing needed.

I've already gotten offers in the mid-teens for my Saltare, and I'm not even 60% done with restoring her to what I would consider quality. You just never know who may want it.

If you go to sell it, put it at what you think you can get for it. If someone pays it, great. If not, start working down. I never price my things at what someone else says they'll go for. They don't know it as well as you do. But it's also on you to explain why it's priced that way so those looking can learn why you value it so high. Somewhere in there you'll find a buyer in the middle.

i see what yall are saying , so if i would to put a price tag at 15k would i be crazy ? i mean haugy like you said id hope to see 13,500 and would be happy with that .. but i have mixed feelings if i would even list it , my family is big and i mean 20-30 people easy big all the time .. everyone wants to tube and ski but i just don't have a big enough boat... i want to keep it but then again i want a bigger boat .... see my problem.... and sometimes i want to set fire to the engine and watch it all burn !! lol ugh!

so if i would to put a price tag at 15k would i be crazy ?

not crazy but you might have to be patient to find the right buyer who also thinks your restoration is a better deal than a newer boat at a similar price. for around $5k more a buyer can find a 2001 year v drive in the classifieds on here.

Not at all. As Salty mentioned, you may have to be patient though. But that's even more selling power, you aren't in a rush. Those who don't have to sell, but are just looking to move up when the offer is right have all the negotiating power. When I sold my Mariah, I was just looking for a bigger boat. Didn't have to sell her, didn't really want to as I loved it so much. But if I got the number I wanted in my head, I'd move it. And I did, so it was gone. You'll just have to be patient, and it's all in how you sell it. Badass pictures, details, receipts available, etc etc. That's how you can help move it. Putting a few pictures on Craigslist won't sell it. You really have to promote it and the work you've done to it.

and sometimes i want to set fire to the engine and watch it all burn !! lol ugh!

If you get to this point, call me and tell me your address, then you can say it was stolen.........:)

Just my opinion here, but you should Never drive a boat that way. I was almost thrown out of my buddies boat when I turned too hard and hit a roller once a long time ago. Scared the hell out of me. Someone was killed on the lake where I ski because they got thown out and run over. In that case it was a passenger sitting on the rail but similar. That's why they make big ass ski mirrors. Once you're kneeling on the seat, you're using the wheel for balance, you get jostled, and you pull on the wheel for balance...

Recently my ski instructor freaked when he saw someone driving like that, none of the drivers at the ski club ever drive in any position other than seated, and these folks drive all day long.

Sorry for the rant.

Back on the thread, very nice upholstery job, and nice boat.
