I think I have narrowed my problems down to the ignition...

I have a Mallory YL670AV.... it appears to be the only one they ever made that noone makes an electronic Conversion for... I am going to call SKIDIM on monday, but am looking for insight this weekend.

Has anyone ever changed this specific model to the Electronic Ignition? If so, what kit was used??

I cant even find a rebuild kit for it when I search for it.

Even when I go to Mallory's website, I cannot find anything on this distributor....

Any help is appreciated! I can feel I am getting close to getting this Salt Running!!!!!!!!

you might try summit racing. their pertronix are significantly less expensive and they carry mallory too. they should know which one you need.

I went to Pertronix's website and they do not show a kit for that distributor....
I will call Summit on Monday and see if they have any thoughts...

I can't even find any replacement parts for this one...

Could I get a distributor from Rock Auto for an '86 GM with a 454 in it?

Called Mallory and this is for anyone who is looking for parts or upgrades to this distributor:

Cap: 209D
Rotor: 309
Points: 25042
Condensor: 400

Also, Mallory does not make an Electronic Ignition upgrade for this because it is a cast AL housing. I have checked Pertronix and they also, do not make an electronic inginition for this specific distributor...

Don't run an automotive distributor in a boat with a closed engine compartment. It is a fire/explosion risk and the distributor will typically rust and not hold up well.

If the pertronix kit for a Mallory YL will not fit that particular distributor then you can replace it, there are many options. This (http://www.summitracing.com/search/department/marine/part-type/distributors/make/chevrolet/engine-size/7-4l-454/advance-type/mechanical/ignition-box-required/no?PageSize=100&SortBy=DisplayPrice&SortOrder=Asc) is all the marine 454 distributors Summit sells, only a few have points.

Personally I use this distributor and am very pleased with it. YLU624AV (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/maa-ylu624av/overview/make/chevrolet) I also got the voltage surge protector for Unilite distributors as voltage spikes kill most electronic ignitions quickly. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/maa-29351

jasun, wotan2525 is running a $50 automotive 50KV HEI aftermarket distributor on his 454 with no any problem. I will order at same time of the new q-jet carburetor i'm planning to buy.

You should ask him about his setup
