I need the stock KTS-MP400MR kenwood head unit to replace the one I have now that is acting up. It has power but won't come on every time.

Yep tried to buy one yesterday but got out bid at the last second, most of the one on there are already broken though. Not sure what I'm going to do I could buy a cheap head unit for now or I could buy a ws-420Q (since it has a master volume, I need to keep it simple for my wife) and just bypass the head unit. On the old ws-420 there isn't a way to control the whole volume with out using the head unit as a master volume?

Found a new one here its a little more than I want to pay for an discontinued CD player but it will work with the remote on the back of the boat that we do use a lot.

The previous 420 had in-boat and tower volume control, but you'd have to turn both of them at the same time when turning it down. The main volume control could come from the source, such as an ipod or whatever device you use. The newer version of the 420, the 420SQ, does have the main volume control. They've also just released the bluetooth interface that would be handy, and it has it's own volume control on it.

That's the exact reason I kept the OEM head unit in my Supra when I had it. Losing the remote on the transom just wasn't an option.

I have a kenwood marine deck that I'm getting rid of...
I don't know if it would work with your remote, but it just might since it's a kenwood and it is able to take a wired marine remote...

I guess my deck won't work with your remote.

Here is one on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kenwood-Marine-Audio-System-Model-KTS-MP400MR-/321174454842?pt=US_Marine_Audio&hash=item4ac77d423a

I have not personally. I just found them with a search. Yeah, I got the same "certificate error" as you did. Looks like you can click continue to still finish the checkout... I've had certificate errors with legitimate sites, so it's hard to say if this should be a red flag. They don't have any address info on their site or a phone number... Their domain was registered by a company in Scottsdale, AZ. But I really don't have any info beyond that...
