AH! So, decided to use the Comp instead of the CC today just to boat around and say hi to people. Well, at the very end of our journey, we stopped at our friends not even a half mile north of us, and I took off the same as I have all day, got up to 3k rpm (~30 mph) and noticed a vibration, slowed down to 1k rpm and it got back. The dash was shacking, ski pylon, steering wheel, the whole boat... Idled home (very short) cranked up the lift, and the end of the prop shaft is bent! Its got a good 1/4" of movement from what it should be...

We have no idea what happened, what we hit... So, its done for the year :( Had to use the CC for the last trip up the lake. Now, can we get our shaft straightened? If not, can we order the old style shaft? Not really interested in shelling out extra $$$ for an ARE shaft...

i have a stock drive shaft off my comp sitting around, let me know if you need it. When it was takin off it was fine i just had to get a longer shaft made after i mounted my engine a lil far forward after my stringer replacement.

How much do you want for it? Also, what year? It needs to be for the 1.23:1 transmission.

not sure where you are but there is a good guy in Fremont Indiana that straighens drive lines on Inboards. Carl Coburn is the owner. www.Northernpropeller.com

give them a call, he can help you out.

my dad thinks we can straighten it pretty good, but, if we can work out a deal with bens we will do that, if not, will give them a call...

I was cruising along just like you and my boat went straight to redline. Jumped into the drink and found my shaft sheared off just past the strut. Brand new prop gone. I never had a noticeable vibration. When I replaced the shaft I could see there was a existing fracture and were it broke through the rest of the way. I've owned the boat for 13 years and only have touched rocks with the prop while idling in shallow water. Point of my story is to really check it out and verify there isn't any fractures in the shaft. I can't see how a shaft could get out of wack like you described without prop damage other than metal fatigue.

Ok, sorry, left the lake at 7. Will pull it and measure. I have a 1992 Supra Comp, 1.23:1 Tranny. All Stock. Even prop. Thank you for letting me know about your spare prop shaft. Just our of curiosity, what boat did it come from?

Exactly what I was gong to suggest. If you didn't hit anything you got very lucky that the prop didn't sink to the bottom. Good deal!

Prop or machine shop should be able to straighten it..... Worth checking out at least.....

yeah, problem is, I live in Binghamton NY, not a lot of places around. Also, you DO NOT want to end up in down town binghamton, not fun...

I bought my car in Binghampton. Took a bus up from NYC and showed up at the dealership about 5pm. Made the deal but was then informed that the financing manager was out already and I'd have to come back in the AM to finalize the paperwork. I was irritated after traveling 1200 miles to kick tires. Had to spend the night in lively downtown Binghampton and it was exactly as you describe.

First Blade is the one that hit something, the shaft is bent opposite it, not bent over very much considering how out of whack the shaft is...
