So my 86 sun sport did not have a pylon. I have a swivel-Eze pylon that I want to install but it has no base plate or bracket. Tried searching for one everywhere and found nothing. Put a call into Attwood today and left a message.
Does anyone have a pic of the mounting base that was used for factory installs? Seems like it would have to be pretty rugged to stand up to that kind of stress. I may have to resort to fabrication if Attwood doesn't call me back. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/22/4udapuhe.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/22/y6y2ypap.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/22/ry7u7yjy.jpg

looks like that pylon needs very specific mounting. I can't really explain the mount Supra used... Just not very good at explaining.. I will say I think I like Correct Crafts way of doing it. Our CC Martinique has the pylon go into a base mount that is in the hull of the boat and then an aluminum bracket going between the stringers and uses stainless u-bolts to hold it down...

Supra used a one piece cast iron that bolted to both stringers and came up right under the floor and had a hole for the pylon to go through. Off the cast-iron piece was another cast iron piece welded in that was a cup for the pylon to sit in. Then 4 bolts clamped against the pylon pushing it forward against the cup it sat in. The bottom of the cup has a brace that also bolts to the front skeg... Its not too bad of a design, but mine is rusting pretty bad on the extra brace and it is a PITA to loosen and tighten as the bolt that clamp have jam nuts, and on a Comp, there is so little room to work with!

It's a rider, but I can't imagine the Sunsport would be any different, at that age they are essentially the same boat. The album these came from on Shutterfly is indispensable if you want to do a tear down as you can see how everything is put together. I would imagine that your pylon mount is still there, so you could most likely adapt the one you have.

My boat never had one! Thanks for the pics, that gives me some ideas. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/22/tunu5e3y.jpg

that is close to what your boat should have. But the rider has it sunk into the hull. Mine can be removed, sort of...

Well, being in the mid 80's they prob were the same as my boat is a 1992 and is really changed up from the classic comps...

This is out of an 83 Rider - Cheap if you need it, or to at least see how to build your bracket . At your pace Your boat will be finished by the time I got down to UPS and shipped it to you this weekend ;-)

Mbd122, thanks for the offer but I think I'm going to have to make something custom. Can you tell what angle that is? I can see the pylon is not vertical or plumb, like it is supposed to be angled rearward. I've never seen a supra other than mine in person.

on every boat the pylon is angled toward the back of the boat. The bracket from Mbd122 is exactly what your supposed to have. The one in my comp is very similar, still a bit different... But that small bracket coming off the bottom uses the front skeg to hold it down... And that piece on my comp is rusted far worse than what most people have seen...

What's the purpose of the pylon being angled? I'm going to install mine vertical and it will most likely go through the top of the new doghouse. Now if I could find that floor plate with the threads id be all set!

its to do with stress I believe. The force that the pylons under go is immense. If its angled back it will bend less. I would angle it if I were you. Every boat is done that way by every brand, probably for a very good reason...

Towing our 3 person tube, the pylons on both boats bend noticeably. You can sit there and watch them bend... The CC granted has a much taller pylon than the Comp but the Comp's pylon still gives a decent amount...

Normally I would agree and angle it. But in this case with the threaded base it would be a little more difficult. All the newer v drives are straight and some pop up and retract. I think I'll be tubing from the transom and the pylon will mostly be used with a 7' pole strapped to the bow.
