So my boat has no raw water strainer and where I am it's inevitable that I stir up a lot of silt and sand when I leave and return to the dock. Any thoughts or suggestions before I pull the trigger on something?

They are easily available the one on my sunsport is mounted above the trans and hooked in line between the raw water fitting and the trans cooler.

Interesting location, I was planning on putting it in the bilge between the tranny cooler and the inlet but there's not a lot of room there, I hadn't considered mounting it above the tranny.

I think we are talking about the same location. I just made a L bracket and used a bell housing bolt to support it. Here is a pic but it dosnt show it to good. If you need Ill take a new pic tomorrow.

A pic would be nice, but no hurry, I won't be doing anything about it until April at the earliest. That's not the location I was thinking at all, I was planning on putting it much lower right beside the through hull fitting or there about, but I think where you've put it makes a bit more sense.
Yes...above the water line is nice, just in case you have to clean it out iwhile still on the lake.

Excellent point, sometimes I miss something really obvious, and as pulling my boat out once it's in is a major pain, (my railway converts to a dock) it's even more important to be able to clean it while it's floating. That's why I posted here first.

Keep in mind that they are strainers and not filters. They catch bigger stuff like weeds not sand and silt.

Anything small enough to get through the strainer will also pass through the cooling system. If you don't have a strainer then the trans cooler becomes the place for debris to collect.

1" I bought the Groco WSB-1000.
Be aware that if you run antifreeze through it (winterizing) you'll end up with a cloudy opaque bowl. It also develops tiny cracks.
