View Full Version : So... who's dewinterized? ROLL CALL

Zim

Just got the boat ready for the water today. Last year my first day out was April 27th. Looking to get out sooner than that this year. Got all the hoses hooked back up and plugs in the block. Only thing now is to get the batteries back in the boat, give it a good cleaning, and drop her in the water. The time is near!!

Who else has had a chance to prep the boat for this season? Hopefully there's not too many of you from up north where you're still dealing with 40" of ice on the lakes...

I just "Summerized" today! Rewired my tower speakers, ran the engine up to temp, changed the oil, cleaned the carpet, now just waiting on two seats I had recovered to be finished and I am back on the water!

We might consider the weekend after April 15th due to tax season, and the lack of wet-suits. If we are lucky, I may get to "summerize" next week, if we are lucky....

Arghhhh! Lots of ice left on our lake yet. I'm heading up this weekend to see if it survived the winter, but "summerizing" will be at least a month away.

I got in last Sunday here in South Carolina for a quick run-around. Water was a solid 50 degrees in Murray, wetsuit was a must. Looking forward to this upcoming week in the 80s. Still need to clean the boat up aesthetically, but good to go mechanically.

Been doing a little overhaul on my boat. Still gonna be a few weeks before the piles of parts that are spread between 3 buildings make their way back on her. 80 degrees this week has me even more rev'd up to get finished. Been a long drawn out process but it will be well worth it in the end.

Well we had a couple inches of snow Saturday night. Beautiful day today in the low sixties. Supposed to be about 74 tomorrow. My main lake is still down about 14 feet at winter pool. But they start filling it in april. So it should be ready in a couple weeks. I need to replace all the hoses on my engine and a few other minor things. Still have a HEI distributor in the garage I would like to install before I take her out. Shooting for early May.

I was in Akron Sat evening as the rain was turning to snow. We had to deice the plane and.......I'm so tired of this. At least here in GA we had 78f today! I have started rebuilding my swim platform and, like you Gogger, I have an HEI distributor to instal and a few other things to do as well. I have a week off in the second half of April so I hope to get them all done then.

We were out on Canyon Lake, Texas Saturday and Sunday. Water temp 64, air temp 78. Only one boat dragging a rope. Still a little cool. Our 02 Launch SS is running great. Just installed a new Acme 541 3 blade. Gets out of the hole quick. Better than the original 4 blade. WOT 4800 rpm, 49 mph with 4 riders, no ballast, full gas tank. Thank you Nettle's.

Had it out 3 weeks ago. Fun to get on the water...and hear the kids scream in the cold water! This winter has been a strange one, so didn't have the guts not to re-winterize afterward. It was a good bet, as the air temp went below 30 a couple days later. But! I'm planning to summerize for good this week...

Our problem is all the lakes are low. I mean really low. When I put the boat in using the only boat ramp that still reaches the water on lake Grapevine, the boat drag the truck down the steep ramp with all 4 tires locked. We need rain!

It might be alittle far but Mustang park boat ramp is usually good (Benbrook lake) all year even when the marina is dry docked . With the winds out of the south the water is almost like glass up next to the shore . Just take it wide coming around the point it stays shallow for 100 yards past the shore line. We could launch late into september last year. Best part very few boats to deal with, other than fishermen. We are planning on heading there Sunday afternoon. shows to be only six feet low . not sure of the temp though.

Well, that was a giant fail. Turn the key and get a clunk, release the key, and another clunk. For some reason the starter doesn't want to spin (can turn the engine over with a pry bar, so I know it is not froze up)

That is horrible news. Hopefully squirt some silicone spray in each cylinder and let it sit for a bit then try to use a breaker bar with a socket on the crank shaft and try to give it a little turn. By using a sickening on the crank shaft you lower the risk of taking anything out of timing. Repeat as necessary and the use of Carb cleaner in the cylinder ports where the spark plugs go may be useful too instead of silicone spray. Hope you get it all figured out.

Same here, I'm usually in before the ice is gone on our lake. I haven't de-winterized but it's ready to run as of last weekend, and it's only been nice for part of one day since then. This weekend looks meh at best. Yep that's my official forecast. Meh with a chance of yardwork. Low likelihood of boating. However, the probability of drinking beer remains high.

Finally got the boat in last night. Ran perfectly, but I need to re-pack the stuffing box. I HATE doing that, it's so unsatisfying. Just when I think it's perfect, two weeks later I find it's leaking too much again. Even with the teflon packing rope! OK end of rant.

Tonight we're going out in the boat for dinner, my son is almost 2 and he'll probably LOVE it. He was born in August, so he was just over 1 when I put the boat away last fall. It'll be basically new for him, it's been so long relative to his age! Excited for a nice 70 degree day, that's as warm as it's been up here in NH so far.

Any of you who are in water lucky! Our comp is in getting the new lexan passenger windshield put on, and the new prop shaft, and getting the prop straightened and balanced (My dad has taken if off and straightened it with a ball-peen and a sledge before!). And our E-Scow lift which we had all of two years was literally ripped apart by the ice, and our Shore Station got beat up ($475 of new parts coming in this week!) Not to mention the entire main dock (my grandmothers cottage) has to be fully torn apart and have all the pilings slowly straightened and then rebuild the dock...

What is even more frustrating is that many people north of us, with HUGE docks, went perfectly unscathed...

Oh well, thats life...

But those of you in the water, PLEASE ENJOY IT, and think how lucky you are! haha :D

Got her in yesterday. New Prop, (lap fitted), new stuffing box hose, repack on the stuffing box, new strut bushings, new shaft coupling, installed a raw water strainer, put the newly rebuilt carb back on, and put her in the water. Unfortunately, it was on my last day at the cottage to actually get the boat in the water and by the time I got the leak on the thermostat housing fixed, I was out of time an only had time blast out to the middle of the lake and back. It won't idle at all, but no time to really mess with it. Now with the new prop properly fitted I can rule out the prop slipping, so I think I'll be rebuilding the tranny (sigh)

For the idle problem. Screw both idle adjustment all the way in and do 2 1/2 turns out for each and go from there. Even at 2 1/2 turns its pretty close to spot on for 600 rpm idle...
