So my swim platform brackets took a bit if a beating last season and I wanted to get them repaired before this season. Last weekend I removed the back seat and fuel tank to access the inside of the transom. We removed the bolts and then pried the mounts off. As you can see from the pic, I should not have sealed them with 3M5200 because I pulled some of the gelcoat off my transom as well. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/16/uqehe2e4.jpg
The moral of the story is that I should have used 3M4200 instead. Anyway, it's going to be gelcoat repair time this weekend.

I've been telling people this for years -- 5200 is designed to be PERMANENT. It should not go anywhere that is designed to take back apart some day. 4200 is sufficient for almost all of our applications.

Thanks Wotan . . . . somehow I remember hearing that before, and when I installed these brackets I probably thought that I'd never be removing them.
It will be fine, just another thing to do!

Let us know how that gelcoat mixing goes. That's always a frustration for me.

I used Bondo for filler and will top with gelcoat tomorrow. Then polish and wax.

Also, the late-model Supra brackets I got from Jim required aluminum wedges to correct the angle of the swim platform. But Mr Jackson mis-judged the angle and now I'm having them milled-down to the proper angle. Additionally, I've ordered some CPES from the Rot Dr to inject into a couple of places in the transom before I out everything back together.
I'm not going through this again!

There's at least 3 different angles on the bracket arms, you could likely order the correct one for your boat instead of the fab. A dealer should be able to look up via hin which "new style" brackets are right for your boat...

I didn't know that. Brackets are already being reworked.
