I'm looking for some tips on setting up the ballast for the SA with surf swell. I went out yesterday with all 2,200 pounds full and the skim was OK and the barrel wasn't good at all. I was going about 10 mph. Any tips/recommendations? Surf faster, less bow weight? I'm going out again today and play around with different setups.

I have an SC 450 and am having the same issues and would appreciate any input from anybody on settings on the SC. I did find this with recommendations from the factory

Even when setup as described in the above link the skims just "OK" and the Barrell is not good

Even with everything set up like this the skim is OK and the barrel is not good. Any suggestions??

How did the second day go?

Day 2 still didn't yield the results I was looking for. I reduced ballast in the bow and varied the speed from 9.5 to 11. No real improvement but I only tried it for 15-20 minutes as the family was ready to go home after 3 solid days on the lake.

In the Supra SA the ballast fills off of timers. The rear both have the same allotted time. You said that you have 2200lbs of ballast, thus you have the hard tanks and bags in the rear, and a hard tank and a bag in the bow. I would try filling the rear on the side you are surfing 100% the side you aren't surfing 80-90% and the bow 50%.

Have you seen this from Supra Freaks? I am having the same problem with my SC.https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=e47KaSsz5X4QHRER9Yzq8A

Thanks wasdblak for the tips and dancinbear, I hadn't seen that from Suprafreaks when I started this thread but have it now. Haven't tried it but will this weekend. I also went with a 750 bag that I get Saturday. Have you tried either the equal or the offset settings?

Had a much better day today! Had a 750 in the starboard side, 100% in port with the normal flex bag and 40% in center. Wake plate at 45% and 9.9 mph. Wake was massive. Able to surf easily without rope and was quite a way behind the boat. My wife even did pretty tight 180's driving and I didn't sink out.

That's awesome! Glade to hear you had a better experience, than your first couple times out. Fly high does make a 750lb bag designed specifically for the Supra SA. It is in an L shape, so it will fill up the entire compartment.

Any pictures?

I have the fly high 750 for the SA. I don't have pictures but will have to snap a few.

I was hoping to grab a pic of me surfing today but was only out with my wife and my 6 year old daughter. I did snap a pic of the wave but I'm not sure that helps. However, I'm getting it dialed in. Love my SA!

Sweet looking boat. The wave looks good too! What surfboard do you have?

I have a Liquid Force Fish. I'm going to try out some different ones soon. I have a shop nearby where I can demo Ronix boards. I would like to try a skim style board.

I've tried all settings, and am still ot getting the wave I expected, going to go out with the dealer hopefully in the next few days. I have surfed old school with weight on either side, both with 8 people on the boat, and tonight with 4. SICK WAVE.

Dancinbear - do you have the upgraded flex bags or the fly high 750's. I found the 750 made a big difference.

Video of my SA surf. 9.9 mph, 45 deg wake plate, skim style, 100% starboard (w/750 bag), 80% port (w/standard flex bag) and 40% bow. Thoughts?

Wave is plenty tall and the length looks good. There is a fair amount of prop wash that I think would go away if you leaned the boat more. Either less weight port or more weight starboard,,, nautical lingo ya know. Sounds like you have movable ballast on board, have them all move from one side to the other.

With just a little change of weight you can find a big difference in wave cleanliness. What you have looks pretty good.

14955I think my wake is getting better :) I'm running 100 starboard, 70 port and 60 front. 10.5mph with 40% wake plate. This is with only 2 passengers that total <300 lbs. I'm happy! Thanks for all of the tips.

Sorry about the orientation. Not sure how to fix that.

This video is from my SC450 with basically 100% factory hard tanks full + plug in play (Rear 750 bags 100% full, front 350 bag 90%) + 400 pounds of lead + 400 sack on floor. ( probably 3500 total ballast) Three people in boat, 11mph. Swell set on skim; 0 star 15 port.

I have the SA and my Buddy has the SC
I have up graded the bags to 750 in the rear.
We fill everything full - wakeplate all the way up - 0
speed is 10.6
swell is factory default on the settings - skim
For a truly awesome wave - add a 750 bag on the floor and roll the fat girl back or forth to whatever side you ride.

My Buddy with the SC does the same except he upgraded the rear bags to 1100 ea.
