Hey Forum,

I am having a bit of an issue, and am not very familiar with the anatomy of the tranny. I have been loosing a lot of tranny fluid (not so much loosing it, as it can be found in my bilge). Additionally, if I clean out the bilge after riding- cleaning out all fluid and water- a short time later I will have more water, with a bit of tranny fluid, back in the bilge. It seem to be coming from the "bell-housing" area, where the tranny marries the motor.

Where would that water be coming from? Do I have a cracked something? the tranny fluid cooler seems to be operating fine with no leaks. I don't think I have water in the fluid (when checking at the dip stick).

Any insights would be much appreciated.

Everything runs fine as long as I keep fluid in it.

Thanks so much,
Brian

that means pull the motor/tranny, split the two, replace the seal?
The rear seal of the motor is leaking some oil also... so...

You could prob just pull the tranny and then you will be able to access them both.

It's super easy to pull it out , weighs maybe 80-100 lbs , grab some cardboard and lay it out . Now go get a 1 1/2 " rubber coupling for PVC pipe and get you drill motor and hose clamp to the input shaft and then clamp the other around your drill chuck and that will give you a way to spin the trans in gear and build pressure and see where the leaks come out . http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/ee1b8d2f.jpg (http://s1189.photobucket.com/user/lively86/media/ee1b8d2f.jpg.html)http://i1189.photobucket.com/albums/z433/lively86/5b4bdb49.jpg (http://s1189.photobucket.com/user/lively86/media/5b4bdb49.jpg.html) that's what it should look like for the velvet drive front pump yuk may just go ahead and rebuild it if you have it out . Master rebuild kit is 200.00 on eBay and I've put mine through hell and back since my rebuild and works like a charm !

That's a great reply, lively, and much appreciated.
Is it difficult to get the drive shaft lined up on re-install (I heard somewhere that this was an issue)?

Thanks again

You just need to make sure coupler to coupler is true . Don't move the trans mounts and you shouldn't have to worry about it but if you do http://youtu.be/3_w0LvD6gEc that should help you understand

Well, I finally am getting around pulling out the tranny, but I am having trouble separating the tranny from the mount. I loosed the tensioning bolt on one side, but can't get it to budge. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Turns out to be a damper plate failure. Each of the little "canisters" (don't know what to call them) on the plate or blown open. Any idea if this is common or if it is caused by anything in particular?

Thanks

Yes it's more common for noises coming from tranny , once you pull them out you usually see rust and the springs that are in there have flown out . I got mine off eBay . They are to dampen the vibration from the flywheel to input spline to trans ... This keeps things balanced out and smooth operation of internal parts .
