I came across what I thought was a great deal on a 2007 24 ssv. Started talking with the guy and after several days of communication have determined it wasn't the great deal I thought it was. First it was in the Houston Tx area. about a 24 hour drive from Ohio. It is on craigslist. The pics showed some discoloration to the interior. Turns out someone was using some type of suntan lotion that stained almost all the upholstery. Couldn't really get him to send me any good pics. Then he tells me all the ballast bags have been removed due to some leaks. Then he finally sends me some pics of it on a trailer and turns out he doesn't have a trailer for it. Shows it sitting on an ate up sea ray trailer. Starts talking about the gulf coast so I ask if it has been in salt water. He says no, but has been in brackish. So by the time I would make it right, it would be in the price range of the others I have seen and I would not be happy about it being in brackish water.

But I now have the bug to get another boat. Think I want a 24 ssv or maybe 22. But I think I would like the larger boat. Think I am in the $40,000 dollar price range. So if you see something in your area for sale let me know. I don't mind traveling, but under 12 hours would be better than 24 hours of driving.

If anyone has any tips on what they think I would like better let me know also. I know I waht a V drive, and built in ballast, just don't like how crowded the Pirata gets with 5 or 6 people and ballast bags on the floor.

Thanks

Scott

If you really have the bug for a newer Supra, I'd look at the 2002-2004 SSV's They seem to be the ones with less issues lately. Great boats, great wakes when weighted, and V-drive. You can pick them up for much less than $40k.

That's a tall order to find a fairly new 24 for around 40... Might be able to get into a 22 around there, but the 24's you'll have to find a really good deal. This one came up in a quick search (its a 22ssv). I'm actually surprised at the lack of used supra's on the market.

Good luck on your search, I'm now in the process of trying to convince the family to upgrade.

I would suggest using this site or a similar one that lets you search all of the craigslist's.

What size is your current boat?
What do you think you want to do with the new one?
Our 22SSV is perfect for us. We upgraded from a 19' open bow.
We can put 6 adults plus 4 kids and be comfortable. Typically, it is 3 of us. We slalom ski, wakeboard and the swim platform makes it seem like a 40 footer (everyone goes in the water and hangs out back there).
I really like the size and again, for what we use it is just right.
The one from Cincinatti looks about the price/condition I would expect and same size/layout. The bench seat can be slid into the middle of the boat for rear facing seating(though we don't use it). You can also fill a 1100# ballast bag, slide the rear seat toward the bow, for surfing. Friends same layout boat in KY did that when we were down.
So again, all in how you want to use it would base the size. Got a place to store/park it when not using?(ie indoor/winter) extra $$$ per foot.

We just bought our 24 SSV THE DAY the previous owner dropped it off as a trade in on his upgrade. It only had 112 HOURS!!!
The vinyl, hull engine, etc. all looked great. Picked it up for $38K.
We had been looking at a lot of boats for two months so when this came along we acted immediately. I believe there was a 22' at a place in Lewisville called McGoy's Toys you can see on line.
Coming from a 20' Crownline I/O Bowrider it's hard to grasp having 16 people in a boat and still pulling up a 170lb slalom skiier with no effort. I take it on family outings all the time and 16 people is the norm. Granted 12 are below 20 yo but they are still bodies taking up room. In other words, we love it.
I will be upgrading the stereo head and subwoofer, adding some lights on the tower and some transom lights. Other than that it's pretty well already rigged how I want it. Keep looking and eventually one will pop up; but act fast!14250

There is a 24v for sale on little Rock AR craigslist for low 30s. Not sure why.

We love our 24 for the space but it is a big boat.

Any reason why? I was leaning toward the 8100 450 hp motor? Does the smaller motor have enough power to move this mammoth?

You are right, my fault. Should have worded it different.

Limit search to 8.1 or 340, IMO. You will come across some with the 325.

The 8.1 motors show 450 hp. I am guessing a 350 with 340 hp?

I'm not certain. There is a 340 and a 325 assault. Both built off the 5.7 350 I believe.

Somewhere around 2007/2008 the 340 received cats.

If we fill up ballast for a ride day I find myself wishing I had more power. That's a little over 3k lbs with the Acme 1433. It planes but not quickly. The rest of the time it's great.

Take a look at Gary's photo, there are 10+ people in there. It's full but its not cramped. They are also housing two tubes. Bow is good size and very usable, cabin is reasonable, and the rear sundeck area adds a lot of room to the boat. The interior layout isn't for everyone but we routinely use the rear facing seat. If you "think" you might want the larger boat, I so go for the big boy!

I think this is my 4th summer with mine and we've put 375 hours on it. Very usable boat. We use it to wakeboard, surf, hangout (50/20/30%). We have barefooted a handful of times. Anywhere from 2 of us to 12 of us on board. Over the years I've spent good time on 4 or 5 other comparable boats and never walked away disappointed in mine. If, I were looking again (that same search criteria I had 4 years ago :o) it would be between my boat and a 23LSV/247. IMO, the 24 has a better look, more storage and I prefer the layout. The LSV will have a more consistent wake board wake and be cleaner at slower speeds.

Random negative thoughts .... I have 570'ish hours ... perfect pass screen is losing its luster and cables have been replaced, the tower feet pads are a PITA, factory swimpad will be unimpressive, carpet has become stiffer over the years, trailer axle/spindle failure, the three pin swivel is terrible (get back with me roswell!), factory ballast is slow with upgraded bags, likely going to be intimidating to new drivers, its big, pulls tongue heavy, may be a couple others I'm missing. I have tons of positives, though, that way outweigh the negatives.

Ask away with any questions .... I'll blow up your thread with some pics in the meantime :D

I'm not sure what others pull with. I had a 6.0 Denali when we first got the boat. We drove 1 hr one-way nearly every weekend and after the first 1.5 yrs, I upgraded to a diesel and it was a nice change. On the trailer .....

Wakeboard wake. Some windy days but best pics I have at a quick grab. You get the idea, though. Likely setups: 2.5-3k lbs hidden ballast, 80 ft, 23 mph.

Surf action. Some of the pics will have an extra sac on the rear locker. Our usual surf setup is all hidden though. 1100 surfside, 300-500 non surf, 1180 bow full. We don't usually dictate where people sit ...

My heart is set on a big boy. Found a couple overnight that I am interested in. Really want the 8.1 engine if I am going with the big one. I love my 89 pirata, and she is big too. So I am pretty sure I will be use to that aspect. Thanks for the pics and info.

I agree, the bigger the motor the better for that. No way I would put a 325Hp in that size boat.
The easy engine access is unreal. (4 screws on the side panels 2 on each side) and it opens right up to everything.
Not stuffing the nose into a wake is something to learn quickly on these how low to the water ours (and pics of KG's) sit. We try to take them on the side instead of bow when at idle when large cruisers pass by if possible. (that's why they come with the large roll bar right? asks a newbie...speaking about the wake tower).

Ok well I found my new baby. The bank agreed that I deserve it. It is a 2006 24 ssv Gravity Games edition. Down in the swamps of Louisianna. He asured my fresh water only. And she is sporting an 8.1 Vortec. 460 hours on the meter. My neighbor has an 8.1 in his chevy truck with over 300,000 miles and hasn't had a problem with the engine. I don't even think he has changed the plugs.

And I think I got a decent price too.

Now I just have to drive 14 hours and get her.

Things you'll hate....

Slow ballast fill times. Definitely worth the money to buy an external tusnami pump and fitting for your bags so you can fill with 2 pumps at a time. If all of your bags fill at the same time, you'll probably need to replace some sprinkler valves/solenoids.

The tower pads are annoying

Swivel racks suck. If you don't already have a drop in pin for them, you can call Roswell and they'll replace them at a lower cost. I got mine for $95/each. There's a sticky in the repair section of the forum with a contact to get ahold of for that.

That's about it.

Happy to share the info.

I actually emailed them last thursday, the wife called me friday. I told her I was interested and would talk to my bank. After a couple days the bank said OK. I called them back and they said they had someone coming this weekend to look at it. So I started looking for another boat. Really couldn't find one I liked or they had sold last weekend. Must have been a good weekend to sell boats. I actually found this one and made an offer. Probably was a better boat, but it has the 340 hp. But it does have only 59 hours.
http://greenville.craigslist.org/boa/4491130516.html

So I actually made the guy an offer of 52,000 he said he would take it to the owner. The guy handling the sell is a friend of his. But didn't hear back right away.

Meanwhile I had left a message for the own of the 2006 telling him I wanted to make an offer sight unseen.

So he called back and I offered him 37,000 seemed like a fair price to me. He accepted it. So I started the final process.

So I am paying 37000 for a boat I haven't seen. He said that when I get there if I wasn't thrilled with it he would refund the deposit and there would be no problem.

Then the 2010 guy called this morning to accept my 52000 offer. I think I am happy with the 2006 and 40% less going out of my pocket. But if anyone is interested in the 2010 we know they will take 52000.

The 2006 got an entire new interior last year. And hasn't been out since it was installed. Also comes with three wakeboards, 2 surfboards, a wakeskate, a couple of tubes and several other goodies.

Just thought I'd jump in. We played with the ballast on our 2005 24ssv today for the first time. Bought the boat in December, as that is when the best deals are out, but we are just getting to really use it.

At first I was concerned, as when I pulled the feed lines to check the bag fill rate, the water was trickling in with the boat sitting still. After reading the cons above, I figured "oh well, this is gonna take a while." I decided to start surfing while the bags were filling. The next thing I knew, the fill lights went out within 2 minutes, leaving me thinking the system was broke. Lifted the decks to look at the bags...and WOW! They had filled 3,000lbs in 3 minutes with the factory system. The key is to keep the boat moving. Emptying was similar...the boat has to be moving (just to keep the nose up) and they emptied in 3-4 minutes.

We had never surfed till today, but I studied a lot of the boob tube vids, paying particular attention to the size and shape of the wakes they were getting. Our 24ssv was making a better, higher curl than anything on the tube. Everyone in the family was surfing no rope by the third pull. My son even figured out how to surf right onto the platform and pick up the board, having never surfed before.

Needless to say, we love the boat. I was looking for a smaller one...but the wife insisted on the 24ft. Very glad she did.

I know you guys are bagging on the 325hp...but that's what we've got. We were pulling double slalom, double wake board, triple tube, and surfing. Granted, we only had 5 on the boat with 3k ballast, but it has no problem coming out of the hole. The wake never gets small enough to be a great slalom boat...but it works. The highest RPM we saw was 4k for the slalom. All the wake work and surfing was in the 2.5-3.5k range. I am sure more HP would be nice...it always is...but there is nothing wrong with the 325.

Kind of difficult to work everything out so far away. The owner is couldn't locate the registration, so he has to try and find it tomorrow. Meanwhile to have everything done by friday they needed a copy of it today. So now I don't know when I will be able to complete the transaction, already have vacation for thursday and friday, was going to leave wednesday take it out on thursday and finalize everything and head back friday. Now that plan may not work, and I have to be back to work tuesday morning. GPS shows its a 15 hour drive. Going to be fun. Might just get my part done and leave wednesday and just come back once the transaction is done. Hopefully by monday. New Orleans should be fun to hang out in for the weekend.

Well the seller is going to cause me to have a nervous break down. Originally he said that in down there a title was optional, and that he did not have one. But he couldn't find his registration, he is a doctor and just recently went through a divorce and apparently his wife handled all the paper work on stuff. So he took a day to drive to Baton Rouge to get a copy of the registration. Well the registration had a title number on it, so my finance company will not proceed without a copy of the title. Obviously.

So he says he actually requested one when he got a copy of the registration, but told them to mail it to him. So he won't have it for a while. Supposedly 5 to 7 days. So no point in me driving down this weekend, since I doubt if he is willing to let me take the boat with out his money, and my bank won't give him the money without the title. Would give up if I hadn't put so much time already into the transaction. Trying to find a boat that I like, for a price that I like. This one fit the bill. So now I just wait and see how quick they get the title. And enjoy my pirata for another weekend.
