I i am working to try get the boat I just purchased (1986 sunsport skier) ready for use on the lake for this summer, and i can better tear into things this fall and winter when i can't enjoy the sunshine and warm days. The floor was soft under where the captains chair goes so i cut up the carpet, as i know i will be replacing after summer, and cut out the majority of the rot, i was also curious to see what was going on below... i am curious about the cross board... it isn't glasses at all, is that normal, or has it been replaced at some point. the stinger is rotten at the tip but it seems like the rot is just starting and only a few inches down the stringer. Also my plan is to cover the hole i cut with 3/4 marine plywood screw in into the deck, and then glass it to seal it. Is this a acceptable patch until fall? any suggestions are very welcome.

I'd seal it back up and forget about it for the season. Once you start fixing it...it'll go on...and on...and on...and...

As long as you can get some anchors to bite into the floor (I'd use toggle bolts through the hollow floor), and you really intend to fix it in the fall, I'd say screw it and skip the fiberglass. Do you keep it inside or covered? Pretty much anything will last a few months as long as you're not leaving it out in the rain and you give it a chance to dry out after you spill beer all over it! (or... ok.... let your dog shake off on it.)

I have some other repairs that i will be making so i figured it wouldn't be much more to just put a layer of glass over it when i am doing the other repairs, it will be covered until i get the garage cleared out some so there is room for it in there. Yeah i figure in the fall when i pull the floor that is when things will get interesting...
Also back to the question does anybody know if it is normal that the cross member that intersects with the stinger is normally not encased with fiberglass?

Brosh, from what I've heard what you find glassed or unglassed under the floor could be as simple as what day of the week the boat was put together or who the individuals were who were doing the work or how much supervision was going on at the time. Some boats, like mine, are glassed very well and even after 23 years of use still have not rot. Others began to rot right away. You will have to dig in to find out what you really have going on. Good luck.

Do minimal repairs to get through the season . Don't bother glassing it wont help anything and will make ir harder to remove.

Alright, consensus is in, no glass it is then. Thanks!
