Anyone know the max hp you can put into the direct drives in the Supra's with the 454?

It's going to come down to the transmission primarily. If you are running the 1:1 you need to make sure it's in perfect running order. But I know some guys who have put some serious meat to those direct drives. I'd say for a stock built tranny 450 hp is going to push it to it's limits. Any more and you will need to upgrade transmissions, strut mounts, and shafts.

I've been contemplating stroking my 454 out for more power so I'm still in the research phase.

The 454 is rated at 330hp, and that was from a motor in it's prime at it's best. I'd venture to say my current 454 is putting out more like 280-300. And that just isn't enough for my big girl. I'd like to get around 400+ hp and 450+ ft/lbs of torque from it. But I know that will take some serious care and maintenance to that tranny.

Did some research, the new Borg Warner Velvet Drives are rated few HP and Torque ratings. Light Duty 650hp, 700ft lbs torque. Heavy Duty line is 800hp, 860 ft lbs of Torque. Getting new Velvet Drive might be the way to go, or having one built for the power.

adding more than 420 hp isnt really going to improve anything other than becoming best buddies with your marina gas man. Saw a supercharged 8.1 in a mastercraft and all it did was go about 1 mph faster, suck better than a 1g hooker, and was so loud the clamshell scoop had to be shut off. It was used for barefooting and after 10 minutes at wot the engine would shut down to limp due to overheating.

thats because it wasn't setup right. Our friends have 92 28ft Scarab with twin 454's 330HP. It will do 75 mph with 2 people and next to no gas haha. Their friends have a 32ft scarab with twin supercharged 502's. Whipple supercharges, 700HP for each motor. That will do 100 MPH. Big difference. And then the fastest boat here on Keuka is a single (lame!) built and supercharged 502 (i think) that is 1,200 HP. Its a catamaran boat and it does 120+MPH!!
