Thought I would post up my experience for future reference. I floated my galvanized 4000# lift to my property using a 35 gallon plastic barrel on each corner and a 15 gallon barrel in the rear, over the cylinder. Floated perfectly level with the bunks about 10 inches out of the water. Enough flotation for me to walk out on it to adjust straps. Towed it about a mile.

I'm doing the same hopefully next weekend. Have two 8' foam billets I was going to put under each side. They each hold 800 lbs. how did you strap it in. Ratchet straps?

Ratchet straps around the barrels with rings and shackled then to the lift structure. They didn't move a inch. A lot of guys strap two 55 gallon barrels to the bunks but it would have been a pain to get it off off the trailer
