tracking fin and unknown object

Any insight if my 86 sunsport should only have one tracking fin? I am having some tracking issues at speed discussed in another thread. Also while looking I found an unkwon object under where the engine goes and a little on the port side any insight what it is?

The unknown object is where water is taken in to cool your engine. I have 3 tracking fins on my comp. Not sure how many your sunsport should have

Man i feel like an idiot, i should have put two and two together on the water intake... but i can't find a under hull reference for the tracking fin thing... there also is a small hole behind the fin that is there that can bee seen in the photo and inside in front of the engine there is a small handle the corresponds with that... is that some kind of drain?

The handle in front of the engine is a drain for the bilge. It should just unscrew. Also just for reference my 84 Rider has 3 tracking fins and should be about the same hull as yours. I believe that would most likely be your handling problem.

yeah that is what i am thinking... now to find at least one fin, and figure out where/how to mount it...

my 88 sunsport has 2 or 3 tracking fins. i dont remember which, but im pretty sure its 2

SO for sure i need to find another fin somewhere... Any ideas?
i found this on ebay, it has a rounded point instead of pointed but i am guessing it will work...

If you can see inside boat in front and in back of tracking fin. You might be able to see patched holes where old fins used to be

yeah i will be inside first thing after work... i am thinking that finding the exact matching fin though is looking like a non starter...

Your Sunsport should have 2 tracking fins.

That is what I am thinking, 2 Fins. The other one goes just in front of the one you have. That is how my '90 Mariah is set up with 2 fins. There should be a plate in the bilge that the fins mount to and in turn is attached to the pylon mount under the floor. The fins should match as closely as possible for best results.

That is hugely helpful... i was thinking it belonged behind the one i have... thanks for saving me from that fail. I didn't really look at it though, might have noticed myself, but then again i can get tunnel vision pretty easily.
