I have replaced the coil and the ignition module on the distributor. I have also used a meter to troubleshoot why engine will not start. I am getting plenty of fuel in the carburator so I know it is not a fueling issue. It is definitely a firing problem. The engine turns over but will not start. It seems that the distributor may need to be replaced. I want to be sure that the distributor is the problem before I commit to purchasing a new one. Using a tester it seems that I am not getting a pulse on the distributor. Any other ideas or suggestions on troubleshooting?

What kind of distributor? What engine?

Did you check and wiggle the safety lanyard by the drivers seat? Is it firmly in neutral?

It is a pulse generator distributor. The engine is a 1998 Chevrolet 350 small block.

I have checked the safety lanyard and made sure throttle was in neutral.

So what have you verified ? Fuel , spark , compression ?

Check your coil / coils

I know it is not fuel problem. It is definitely a firing issue. I have just recently replaced the coil and even replaced the ignition module on the distributor. I want to make sure the distributor is the problem before a buy another.

Is the coil external from the dizzy ? Or what ? Have you verified power 12vdc to coil ?

What did you do to verify that you have no spark?

I guess that's fair to assume it didn't start, I was just wondering how the conclusion to replace the module and coil came about and how recently we're they replaced? I try to solve one problem at a time without making a new one along the way. So why did you replace the module? Did it run afterwards? If so did you check timing?

Yikes, it seems like I am having trouble reading English today. Looks like your boat won't start. Sorry bout the last replies. Did not mean to waste time.

I am getting 12 volts to the coil.

I used an analog meter to verify I am getting 12 volts to the distributor. I was getting 12 volts to the ignition module, but nothing coming out of the module. That is why I replaced the module hoping it was just the module. I replaced the coil because there was power going to the coil, but nothing coming from the coil.

I have not checked the timing

Have you checked for spark at the end of a lead or at the end of the coil lead? Be careful doing this as it can give you a good belt if you touch the wrong component. This is the only way you'll know if you have good spark. Is it HEI distributor or points? Is the inside of the cap clean and non corroded? Is the center carbon pin under the cap still there?

Post a pic of your distributor and coil then give me a call and I will walk you through it.
