Hi gang,
I just replaced my ring gear due to half of the teeth missing. After buttoning everything up the starter will not engage the flywheel now. The starter Bendix is engaging but it only seems as though it's barely touching the ring gear. Any ideas what the issue could be?
Thanks
Tim

Is it the correct ring gear? Is the starter teeth warn down also?

All the gm ring gears are the same 168 teeth

Then your starter is shimmed out to far.

Are you sure bendix is pushing all the way out

Took the starter in today to the rebuilder, they said the end bushing looked warn. They are gonna replace the bendix and bushing.... We'll see???

Hit it with a hammer ! That always straightens those pesky bendix out !

Turns out I installed the new ring gear on the back side of the flywheel....talk about feeling stupid! Had to pull everything apart for a 10 minute switch. It's all back together

If it was easy there wouldn't be repair shops. We have all been there and learned. Congrats on winning

Yeah I know the feeling. When I rebuilt my tranny I put the pump housing on upside down so had to pull the tranny again to switch it. Was kicking myself. I even marked it before I took it apart.
