Anything can be done. The question is would you really want to? Wouldn't be much fun to board behind, and probably not built to run for long periods of time. But you would get everyones attention when you fired it up.

Yes, it can be swapped in. There are velvet drive bellhousings for nearly all engine types, and marine mounts are either available new, used, or not rocket science to make. Personally I'd just go with a nice reasonable output 700 HP 460 based stroker that will burn pump gas, idle nice, and have strong torque from off idle to 6500 RPM. Limiting factor even with a cheapy deal like that is surely the hull. These are not high speed hulls and with the relatively steep shaft angle when you start running serious HP pushing big props they dig the nose which can be very dangerous. Most inboard ski boats tend to get scary around 60 MPH from what I've read.

I'd be perfectly happy with a modest 450 HP 460 in my Salt. Really, how quickly do you need to get to 22 MPH? With my modestly more than stock HP 454 a straight arm launch is ridiculous, like will rip the handle out of even the most death grip type of rider and risking injury if you're dumb enough to hold on. I'd like more power to turn a bigger wheel and reduce RPM, but ideally at the balance of reducing GPH vs excess power that in not usable for 90% of my time on the water and results in difficult docking from an excessively high and rough idle.

There's a new-style replica wooden boat on my lake with some supercharged Ilmor engine in it, the thing sounds crazy at WOT which the owner LOVES to do. It sounds fairly normal at about 3500 RPM, pretty much like any 80's or earlier ski boat, and then he cranks it up another couple thousand RPM. Amazing sound. And this is on a pretty conservative lake, 40mph speed limit, average boat is probably 19 feet. He's not going 40, that I'm sure of.

Yeah, probably want to do the V-Drive conversion at the same time I'm thinking. It would be best to get as much room between your head and the bug catcher as possible. That could lead to an embarrassing conversation with your hair stylist/barber. But you could brag to all the enviro-extremists how you are using zero fossil fuels, just nice clean alcohol,,,,, well, and maybe a touch of Nitro Methane.

I was absolutely obsessed when I first saw a video of those things. Like, what could be more fun? You have a roll cage for when you inevitably crash into the land, but it's all soft, round mud or grass banks. And they are SO FAST and corner like really nothing else.

They are almost mesmerizing to watch. 1000hp, 1200lbs, 13ft fiberglass boat, 0-80 in 3 seconds, and they corner harder than my M3 lol! I want one SOOOO BAD!
