Just like cjtpilot I am looking for some information about renting a houseboat for a week down in Dale Hollow. I know there are a lot of forum members from that area. I plan on taking the salt with me. Any specific Marina to look at? Any information would be appreciated!

Traditionally, Dale is my "home lake" although its a 3.5 hour, windy back road tow from my house in Lexington. As a kid we did a lot of camping at Lilly Dale, then got into the houseboat game - first at state dock, later (and currently) at Holly Creek.

Honestly, I don't hear many negative things at all about any of the other docks when it comes to renting. East Port is well known as the least expensive (for a nice boat), but they're WAAAAAY up the lake. Our marina was recently bought by a larger company and they're putting a lot of work into the fleet (Holly Creek/Eagle's Cove are the same company). I'd say that Sunset is currently the biggest, but I don't make it to that end of the lake a ton (same leg as east port). I've been seeing more and more Hendrix Creek rental boats out on the big part of the lake - probably a good sign. Personally, my favorite part of the lake is the Wolf River leg - especially or family boating. It stays slightly less busy, and there are a few points of interests for the whole gang - the jumping cliffs near Wolf River Marina, slalom course in Fanny's Creek (the creek that wraps around the NE side of the state park on the map), and my personal "secret spot" that I won't share openly on the interwebs...

A few other things to see if you get out roaming the lake:
* Mike's Landing restaurant at Sulphur creek
* the cheeseburger at East Port - best on the lake, but a LONG ride in a ski boat...
* the new store (full grocery, boat shop, and dive shop) at Willow Grove
* the rope bridge connecting the island at pleasant grove overlooking the dam
* if you catch the right weekend, powerboat races at Eagle Creek
* golf at the state park (if that's your thing)

Also, be aware that TN has (more) recently implemented sound restrictions. I was ticketed in my open piped Correct Craft two seasons ago. If you have removed the supertraps from your salt, you'll be in danger.

Have been going to Dale Hollow for around 18 years now. Usually every summer we have stayed on a houseboat. One year we tented it. Absolutely love the lake and the people around/on it! We started with 4 adults and 6 young kids on the smallest houseboat that Cedar Hill Resort offered 18 years ago and quickly moved up to thier Largest. After the new ownership took over we seen a decline in the condition and cleanliness of the boats and started looking around for some one else.

After touring the whole lake and house boat offerings we decided on Holly Creeks largest boat, I think it is called the "Bigfoot 2". It by far had the best design for including everyone in a large group for eating and relaxing in the dinning room and living room. We prefer the south west part of the lake due to it always seeming less busier than eastern with a whole lot more coves to board/ski/tube/relax in with no other boats. Holly Creek was the furthest we wanted to go east due to the long slow ride to our normal cove(leaves more time for the boating and drinking, the important stuff!). We loved the hospitality of Holly Creeks staff and will be using them next year. Due to our original 10 more than doubling we will most likely need two boats from now on.

We moor the boat up in a cove and don't move until vacation is over, But we see a ton of people using the houseboat to tour the whole lake, so don't rule that out! We usually dedicate one day to cruise around and check out other resorts and go east to jump off the cliffs. It is insane how big the lake is so don't plan on seeing everything in one day! Water is deep in most places, there are a few spots you want to pay attention to but just to give you an idea on the rest, water depth next to the shore line you can cut out on a wake board and grab limbs off of trees (watch out for the fishing lines!!!)

We are out on the boat rain or shine, there is always glass somewhere!!! Any questions just let me know, I obsess about going there every year!
