I'm thinking about purchasing a 1985 sunsport. It has all new interior. Are there any problems with this year or things I might want to check on. I think the wife and I are going to look at it tomorrow. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have spent the last few days scrolling through almost every thread on this forum and can tell you guys really know your stuff when it comes to these boats. Thanks. http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/360x360q90/14/11/14/23230d63d6d3506073886a93c814ffcc.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/360x360q90/14/11/14/6b92b637961928b44e8a33bd030d0e00.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/360x360q90/14/11/14/e70108b95708aec5b3cc1f3fcd5f7e4f.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/360x360q90/14/11/14/1633b93d57bf76ea7392cc49dd144193.jpg

Make sure to check the engine mounts and see if they spin.

Here is one that might be worth looking at... And it isn't sold at a stealership...

That's a weird passengers seat . The biggest and most costly problem on these boats are the wood stringers and floors. Use the search box in the upper right corner to get info on how to check them. If its at a dealer ask them if the stringers are OK and if they will guaranty they are. A stringer job will cost 4-5k the boat is not worth much if it has bad stringers.

Don't take the dealerships word on stringers. I asked the same question when i bought my first boat (87 C.C. barefoot nautique). They assured me the stringers were in good shape. I asked on 3 seperate occassions and was told the same thing all 3 times by 2 different people. "the stringers are good" was all i heard. Turns out they wern't good. They were rather rotten. Long story short, i ended up getting 35% of the purchase price returned to me by the dealership for the rotten strings. First and last experiance buying at a dealership. CHECK THE STRINGERS BEFORE YOU BUY!

I believe that seat configuration is original. I have seen it on a few others including the beast.

I wouldn't do business with a dealership. They add nothing but extra cost and hassle to the transaction. If the price is really good then maybe worth the hassle but it would have to be a real bargain. Boat looks nice, goofy seat though. Like a Saltare but without a normal observer seat. I would want to remedy that. I don't like the tower, looks like a cheap one with generic styling that doesn't suit the boat. In my mind I'd rather have one with no tower at the same price and put a New Dimension on it, less work and money matching gel. Regardless, if stringers haven't been done it'll need it eventually. Could be now, a year, or 10 years. Tap on them the whole length and try tightening the motor and trans mount bolts. If they sound solid and bolts are snug you probably have at least a few seasons before they need done. It does look nice from the pictures though.
