Hi,

I have one new d34m optima battery. I planned on purchasing another battery to run a dual battery setup. Could someone tell me if I'm ok with another D34M or should I go with the bigger D31m? Before anyone suggests why I'm using optima brand batteries I'll save you the trouble and say I can't get a good deal on them. Any help would be great.

Thanks

I assume you mean that you can get a good deal on an optima? Either way -- it's your money, so spend it however you like. I'd go for the biggest battery I could find space for. I run (2) of the 31s for my house/stereo bank.

Without knowing anything else other than you currently have a 34M, id say go with the larger D31M for a dual bank setup. If you are going to be wiring them together in parallel, then go with a 2nd D34M.

Thanks guys. That should of been I "can" get deals on the optima batteries. They will be in ran parallel.

One last question. I will be running these batteries in parallel. Do I have to run 2 34m's in parallel or can I run 1 d34m and 1 d31m? will it hurt anything if the batteries are not the same?

Ideally, you need to have 2 identical batteries when two or more will be wired together, as they become one. Its also best if they are the same age as well. A larger and smaller battery wired together will not recharge at the same rate, nor discharge at the same rate. I would go with another 34M if wiring them in parallel is the plan.

Even if I'm using a switch? Ultimately I wanted a 31m for the other battery but your saying get identical batteries?

You said they would be wired in parallel, right? Using a dual bank switch gives you 2 battery banks. 2 batteries wired together in parallel gives you one large battery.

I apologize Mike. I got my electrical terms screwed up. I think I will go with a guest dual battery switch. I'm ok going with the 31m and 34m with switch?

Ok cool! Yes, go with the larger 31M and use it as the house bank and use the existing 34M as the main cranking.
