Just thought id pop in and say Hi, and introduce myself (im English so polite like that :) )

Ive been skiing, coaching and competition boat driving for *ahem* a few years (well lets just say its 30+) haha.
Just bought myself an old 1993 TS6M as it was my favourite boat to drive back in the 90's and much better wake than my old Nautique 2001 for slalom and jump, but not quite as good for trick runs.
It was a toss up between the Flightcraft or the TS6, seeing as i couldnt get hold of an old flightcraft then TS6 it was. Got it as an absolute bargain here in the UK, an ex ski school boat, as it didnt have LPG conversion it was hardly used and has only 700 hrs on the meter.
So i have rewired and sorted the instruments out as they were getting old and tatty, serviced the motor, stripped, ultrasonically cleaned and rebuilt the gummed up Holley, polished the hull as it was a bit faded and commissioned and ordered a pair of windscreens to be made as they were de-laminating.

From a sorry old state to a nice little ski boat :D

Anyway, happy skiing / wakeboarding guys.

Any fellow Brits on here? could meet up and have a brewski :D

Welcome! Most here are across the pond. There's a French guy I believe as well, so he's probably your closest bet. Cheers!

Welcome. I have a 92 with the windshield starting to de-laminate also. Second generation comps have always been one of my favorite boats. How much did the glass cost?

I have commissioned a replacement set in 10mm cast Acrylic from a specialist in optical clear plastics (they make submarine and marine glass screens and bubbles), its in a light bronze tint, including tooling and a pair of screens it is £975 ($1500 USD) for the pair. I couldnt find the supplier of the original screens, I did however find a glass company who could make a pair of standard 8mm toughened glass screens, but the quote came in at £1500 ($2300 USD) and to be honest, the acrylic cast is 30 times stronger and wont de-laminate or suffer punch through from the screen frame mounted mirror.
Delivery should be in about 1 week from now, as soon as it arrives i will post pictures. When i looked at Ski Nautique and MC prices, they were all very similar so i guess its not too painful.
This is how its made.

They firslty copy the screen contour using an MDF board, as its a 2 dimensional screen and not a complex 3D shape, its fairly simple to make a mould. Once the screen shape is completed they then cut the sheet into its shape making sure they allow for shrinkage and expansion by over cutting the sheet size.

The cast acrylic plate is place in an oven and uniformly heated to about 110C to soften it enough to make it very pliable. The mould is also heated.
The sheet is then place in the mould and left to cool in the oven, so it gently reduces in temperature and minimises shrinkage and distortions.

Its then removed from the tool when cool and inspected and if any imperfections are found the polish them out, its usually dust particles getting trapped as acrylic suffers from a lot of static charge.
Its then flame finished to create a optically clear uniform lens.

Cant wait to see the result :)
