interested in older supra saltare, have a choice between 2 different years and 2 different prices. I was just wanting to get some feed back for you guys. one is a 1989 saltare, for 5995, and the other is a 92-93 saltare for 11900 would like to offer about 8000 for it.

The 1992-1993 is worth every dime of more money than the 89. Composite stringers means that you don't need to spend a year and $5k-$6k to repair the stringers. I'd bet my eye teeth that the 89 has rot.

Definitely go with the newer one. Not worth having to worry about stringer rot.

Agreed. That 92-93 makes my heart go pitter-pat. I'm always on the lookout for a 92+ Saltare with composite stringers. The extra weight and deeper vee up front would make it ride so much better in rough water than my Mariah. You really just don't see 92+ Saltares that often. I'd probably go $10k on that one so long as the interior was in good shape and the motor solid. Is it a 351 or a 454?

From the looks of the dashboard, that could be a 94 or 95 boat. Not sure on the Saltares, but Mariahs got this newer dash in 94 I think. The older dash that my 92 boat has is notorious for developing cracks in the switch panels.

1st revision of dash on 92+ boats (Sorry, a video is all I have):

2nd revision on 92+ looks just like the video above, but the plastic is fake woodgrain plastic instead of gray plastic.

3rd revision looks like the one in the 92+ boat you're looking at.

One thing you should know about the 92+ boats. When they went to the curved windshield in 92, they didn't do a very good job on the hinge on the center-opening glass. Mine fell off more than 10 years ago and it appears the same has happened to this boat. If there's a fix, I'm not aware of it, but then again I haven't done much research on it. I've had no problems running without the center glass except running on a cool morning can get a little chilly without the glass blocking the wind. Making a run for the dock during a sudden rainstorm isn't very fun either. Regardless, it wouldn't stop me from looking long and hard at that boat.

Round windshield Supras are more expensive for a reason. Composite stringers, thought I dislike the look, it's probably worth the extra money for the composite boat. $3k-$5k for a stringer job and it'll be better than Supra made it, likely never needing it again, but it's a big expense and inconvenience. The earlier boat may not need stringers now but in a year, 5, or 10 it likely will. You can check motor and trans mount bolts but it's always a gamble with and older wood boat.
