So, I am in desperate need of a 48" prop shaft for a 1987 Saltare with a 454 and borg warner trans. The one I have cracked at the tapered part that goes in the trans coupler. I have looked around and just keep getting run around from companies on getting one machined.... Last place I have to check is skidim.... Thanks in advance for anyone who can help me out!!

Your last place should have been your first place....

I'd replace/upgrade the coupler to the "new style coupler" as long as you're doing it.

But.... if you don't want to do that, you should tell me where you are located because I think I have a shaft that is still usable.

Well here is the deal... it has been updated to the newer coupler with a taper fit at the trans... that's where it has cracked. I know the stringers are sketchy and the motor alignment is most likely not right. I just need to band aid it for the rest of the season. Last time this happened I had a place called Glenn L marine machine one to the spec of the coupler I have. We'll there price now is almost double and they are 4 weeks out on orders. I have a feeling it's $450 skidim shaft time :(

Call these guys. They are probably the OEM on that shaft (and the coupler.) And usually have them in stock. Not sure on pricing but I've had great luck having them get me exactly what I need..... http://www.croixgear.com/marineproducts-underwater.htm

Man I tried them yesterday from an old post I found on here. They said they been put of the marine side of things for about 2 years now. And turned me on to another company "propulsion" which is also up in WI. So Googled them and the number is no longer in service???

It doesn't seem like rocket science to just have another shaft machined to spec I need for the price I paid 2 years ago, which was like $250. But I'll be dammed if I can find anyone to do it...
