I have an 89 Conbrio, runs fine, guzzles tons of gas, and has 850 hours. Would there be a benefit to up grading to an electric distributer? What are the benefits and cons all around?

Stronger spark and less maintenance. I.e. no more points to change and set.

^ What he said. I run a Mallory Unilite and am happy with it. Changing ignition system will not reduce fuel consumption. It can make for a smoother idle and easier starting.

Is your goal to minimize fuel consumption? An optimized timing curve will reduce fuel consumption. Ensuring floats are adjusted properly and carb is jetted properly will also reduce fuel consumption. Quantify "guzzles tons of gas". For comparison my Saltare with 454 typically runs in the 6-7 GPH range, which I consider decent, though not great. Admittedly I've not taken the time to dial in the jetting and timing curve.
