You may need to repack the stuffing box and or hose. Good write-up here: http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/stuffing_box.

no , just inside , if you have the packing style with two nuts you can tighten the outer nut to slow the leaking .. but it will leak ,, its supposed too

but it will leak ,, its supposed too Just not as much as lively's boat :p

Be careful about trying to get the drip rate down below 1 drop every 10 to 15 seconds. If you over tighten the gland nut the packing gets starved for water, then it gets hot, then it wears the shaft then it leaks more.

If you're new to the boat, you may want to replace the packing, it's a pretty easy job if you take your time, and new gore tex packing is less than 20 bucks. http://www.skidim.com/Drive-Shaft-Seals/products/1032/ there are a few good web pages on how to do it, here's one http://www.pbase.com/mainecruising/stuffing_box

I really need a second battery and bilge pump myself. I leave the boat unattended (covered) sometimes for several weeks in the water, and I'm scared one day I'm going to find it on the bottom.
