View Full Version : what to expect from a v-drive?

To supra owners and experts:

After an overall engine breakdown in my 21' closed bow I/O (250 HP Volvo DP) I decided to buy a Supra Santera in November. I did no test-drive, just checked out a sunsport-V and studied wm's boat buyers guides 2002/2003 for weeks. Boat had to be a good slalom/family compromise for an ambitious recreational skier.

For me the coming boat then is a totally new experience in modern ski boat hull design, Layout (open bow) and propulsion (v-drive).

Questions remaining are:
- Is spray a problem with the open bow in choppy conditions (i.e. coastal waters, bigger lakes)?
- What top speed can I expect with HO engine configuration and 4 blade 14 x 18 Cutter prop? Is there a serious ss-prop alternative for higher ts?
- What is the slalom wake like, compared to a similar I/O-boat (about the same size and weight)?
- What about handling when docking in narrow boxes?

any comments welcome, Thanx
